Quite a list there, GRUNHERZ.

Must've taken quite a while to type.

FW 190A-3

FW 190G-1

Milo you could find that information but so many people would start flaming and squeaking about it that the actual discussion would get lost somewhere in the thread.

The best thing to do is to look for the Werke Nummer research page on the internet. That will give you an idea of the approximate numbers of all aircraft that Germany built in each variant of every plane during the war years.

Reschke, converting a 190A8 into a 190A9 changing canopy and engine would imply a werk number change?

Mandoble, as far as i know in the LW planes were most often not converted.

There are examples of A8 frames used to build D9 or old style canopies, but i think (beside prototypes) new planes were never converted from planes that already flew on the front.

Unlike the RAF, were whole squads were converted, the LW delivered factory new planes to the squads, even when there were just minor changes.
And those minor changes also cause a change in the werknummern.

Naudet, think that A9 was present since Sept/Oct 1944. With the german industry seriously damaged, fitting the new engine and changing the canopy in existing 190A8s (even still in the factories) would be the most convenient (perhaps almost the only) way to have 190A9s fighting in the front.

Many airframes of old a/c were used in the construction of new a/c.

The Bf109G-10 is one example of using old airframes. The Fw190F-8 in the NASM Washington USA has an ID plate with an A-7 WkN and camo paint/stab marking to say it had seen combat. Any a/c returned for re-work could be used in 'new' construction.

Mandoble,

Germany's aircraft production was the highest ever in the autumn of '44.

Many A9s were converted from A8. Especially at 1945 germans didn't pay much attention to werknummers and there are several mismatches.
