A new Russian Fighter for AH

The I-16 was a very common fighter well into 1943 and saw service up till the end of the war. This plane although slow by comparison with the late war fighters was a very manauverable airplane, kinda like a Russian Zero, except the later models carried 4 20mm cannons 2 250KG bombs or 6 RS 82 rockets, quiet a punch realy. I think this plane could be used effectavely in the MA espichaly for base defense do to it's abaility to manuaver and delever a decent anti GV punch, It also would add greately to any CT set up with Soviet aircraft.

I've wanted one of these since I visited the Fighter Pilots' Museum in NZ a few years ago and saw them building a whole bunch of them.  They are really different looking fighters, almost comical looking.  I'd love to fly one. :)

How about a Yak-9 with 20 mm, the backbone of the Soviet fighter force?

We need Soviet fighters that actually suck :D

What we have now is all monsters..

 Yak-9U: darn fast, good maneuverability...
 Yak-9T: reasonably fast, killer guns...
 La-5FN: amazingly capable plane
La-7: amazing upgrade from the amazingly capable plane

 .....

We need some 1941, 1942 stuff! It's shame to see none of our AH  VVS planes have the typical "Soviet green" colors on themselves!!

LaGG-3 and Yak-1B(in Lilya Litvjak colors!!! ooooh!!!)

... these two come into mind.

Definately saw more and later use than the mig 3 (due there being so many and the production line was well oiled) and was  in greater use than the lagg3, and yak1/7

The late war model yak thats missing is the 3 but the 9U is so 3 like I would give it a miss for a twin shvak cannon I-16......... (same fire power as the la5FN)

and I agree like the Yak 9 it would make a pretty good low level field defender.......

Tilt

Yak 9d would be an easy addition............ its a T with bigger and heavier fuel tank, the same guns as the U and a pair of light bomb hitches. Its only advantage over the other yaks would be range.

How about I-153 bi-plane; predecessor of I-16?
It was widely used -42 and in summer 1943 it was transferred to ground-attack duties. Could carry eight rockets AFAIR.

I thought of that, but the I 16 has some very nice options two 500 pound bombs or 6 rockets and up to four 20mm canons on the later model a real nice punch.
