I got disco'd last night for the 3rd time, so decided to hanger the bird and flip on the TV.
Got on just in time to see a P-51 show on the Discovery Wings channal.
Chuck Yeager was talking about his experiences as well as a few other WW2 P-51 fighter pilots.
One pilot retold his tale of shooting up a German chute because the German had been strafing B-17 crewmen as they hung from thier chutes.
He stated that the six .50s really tore the German up, didn't leave much left when he emptied his guns on the guy.
Also said his fellow pilots were concerned when they saw him doing it, as they worried soon everyone would do it, Axis and Allied.
Towards the end of the show Yeager told of his downing a Me262.
Said he saw it on final approach as it was landing then closed to about 200 yards, opened up with his P-51's six .50s, and after blowing the jet's right wing off watched it cartwheeel into the ground.
Yeager's comment was; "It wasn't very sportsman like, but, what the hell."
