Request for Info on the P-39
« on: April 13, 2002, 11:33:19 PM »
S!

Wondering if anyone has information on the following regards various models of the P-39:

Zero Lift Drag Coefficient

Lift Coefficient

Comparative data with other U.S./British and German aircraft would also be useful.

I have come across some information which suggested the P-39 had one of the most slippery profiles of any U.S. aircraft other than the P-51.

                                        Any help appreciated

Buzzbait,

The pilot manual for the N/Q gives a stall of 105 mph clean and the plane weighs about 7570 lbs, so your lift coefficient works out to be around 1.26.  As for drag, the plane hits 376 mph @ 12700 ft or so with ~ 1450 hp output (with ram).  Assuming 20% losses to the prop efficiency, you're looking at a Cd0 of about 0.021 for a wing area of 213.2 sq ft.  If you wanna analyze the airfoils, it used NACA 0015 at the root and NACA 23009 at the tip.
