Anyone know when I can fly the Yak?
« on: May 30, 2000, 11:31:00 AM »
So, where is 1.03? When will it be out, I know they don't pack a lot of heat, but I used to slap spits around pretty good with the YaKs in WB.

The Veltro is growing on me, but would like to give that Yak a turn.

Hmmm, a "when"...anyone want to tell DT when?

BTW, when you were 'slapping' spits around in WB's did you use Yak9 or 3?  I never did have much success with the 9, but the 3 did real well against Spits.  BTW, its  the 9 being modeled here in AH.

I just pray its not Friday, I won't be in town!

Actually Rip, we're getting the Yak-9U, not the Yak-9   Big difference.

The original Yak-9 is a midwar aircraft, which as you stated, is quite inferior to the Yak-3 in WB's.

The Yak-9U is a much improved version, with a more powerful engine. In fact, it should be at least the equal to, and in many cases superior to the Yak-3.

Downtown, I feel your pain...  I want to fly this bird so bad that it almost hurts.

I don't know squat about the 9U, however, this statement above surprizes me, will it really turn as good as a Yak-3?  Hope y'all aren't too disappointed when it comes out...

Rip, here are the stats on the Yak-3 and Yak-9U.  Make your own judgement

Note: Edited about 4 times, trying to get the spacing correct, for a side by side comparison, but no luck. Wish we had a mono spaced font

---Yak3---
Engine Model:  VK-105PF-2
Engine Power (hp):  1,240
Wing Area (sq.ft):  159.8
Empty Weight(lbs):  4,691
Gross Weight(lbs):  5,945
Speed at SL (mph):  351
Speed at Altitude:  398  (at 15k)
Climb to 5k meters:  4.1 mins
Ceiling:  35,500 ft
Turn Time 360deg(secs):  19
Operational Range:  528 miles

---Yak9U---
Engine Model:  VK-107A
Engine Power (hp):  1,500
Wing Area (sq.ft):  184.6
Empty Weight(lbs):  5,460
Gross Weight(lbs):  6,944
Speed at SL (mph):  373
Speed at Altitude:  434 (at 18k)
Climb to 5k meters:  4.1 mins
Ceiling:  35,500 ft
Turn Time 360deg(secs):  18.5
Operational Range:  549 miles

The Yak-9U is a bigger heavier plane, but it also has more engine power and more wing area.

yak9u is better than the yak3

the ultimate yak was the yak3(107)  but it was to late to see action in ww2.
Fester was my in game name until September 2013

2 cowl 12.7 ShKAS and one ShVAK through the spinner. With other cannon available for anti armor roles. like 23mm and higher.
I think there might have been a tri B-10 version firing 20mm ShVAK but I can't remember.
In all ammunition is quite low. 150rds for MG and 120 for 20mm I believe was standard.

Yep, you're right that's where my interview is at. Are you located in the Portland area yourself ? I'm really looking forward to coming out, I heard Oregon is a really nice place.
