The CT need a 'hook'....
« on: April 23, 2002, 04:13:34 PM »
The CT needs a 'hook' to draw players from the MA.  Something(s) that is not available there like Submarines, Artillery, mobile AAA or maybe just vehicles that can climb a hill. I'm sure others can add to the list.  It needs something to set it apart and make it special.     Possibility it could be used as a testing ground for new features before they make it to the MA.

The Terrain's the CT staff have created are the best in Aces High.   The Historical plane set is great.   But it's just not enough to get the average customer out of the MA. (sadly)

Just a thought on a slow afternoon......

I would at first glance agree with you, but you need to look at it from EVERY angle.

I'm sure there will be people who would love to see new and inovative stuff, and wouldn't mind being "geunie pigs" (sp). But then you have others that will say they pay 15 bucks for a game that WORKS and test it offline make sure it's ready THEN put out  a FINISHED polished product.

So, your damned if you do damned if you don't.

Also you need to realize, Not everyone has DSL or cable and those who have 56K connections don't want to "reload" everytime a bug is squashed. I have, with the help of Pokie and many other TE mapmakers have exchanged Idea's, revamped old idea's and have some very Unique stuff. But HTC can't look at all the stuff nor has the time for everyone that  has what they percieve to be a "great Idea".

Bottom line, I don't think (IMO) Hitech wants to use any paying customer or any area as a testing ground.

I dunno, It might not actually work for the CT arena, but the idea itself is not a new one. Most MMORPG's have "test servers" for testing new ideas/features/etc. While the CT itself is probably not the place for it, as it's a published, advertised arena, but a separate, "test arena" maybe would be.

Hmm then HTC could have "player feedback" on new features, etc, before publication into the final build for any set version. Then again, it might actually increase time between new versions, so it's a double edged sword :)

Its the only arena people will be able to fly the early war a/c that are now being introduced with a reasonable chance to survive.

It also the only place (outside of events) to fly against a historical planeset.

Last night, the numbers were 352 MA to 14 CT when I logged in.
The night before that, it was something like 400+ to 9.   I often
wonder if a name change like "Axis v Allies Theatre" would help.  The Axis vs Allies Arena killed the MA in old 2.77 Warbirds.

Use MA radar and icon settings and call the CT the Axis vs Allies arena, watch the numbers climb.

The "hook" for a WWII flight "sim":

-historical planeset => RPS
-NO icons
-NO inflight radar
-shoot to kill <100m
-eng overheat
-guns jamming
-wind/turbulence
-ETC.

I´m sad that you AH guys have the same problems than we WB´ers. Very few players seem to like anyting historical/realistic. We have an arena http://www.eztargets.com in WB2.77 and WBIII that is as realistic as the game allows. Sadly only few people play there because it´s not QUAKEBIRDS/QUAKES HIGH. I hope you guys get this thing running...
