Performance of LW MG's
« on: April 18, 2002, 10:53:21 AM »
Does anybody have some good reference to the performance of the MG's used in LW planes and how they compare to .50?

To me the LW MG's seem to be useless, it is like throwing a hand full of popcorn at the enemy plane.

If we would be able to select gun ammo prior to the flight I wouldn't even select them.

I hardly ever get a kill with purely MG rounds (on those occasions where i still fight without cannon rounds).

LOL, is the taller the better performer?

Well, Apar, keep in mind that what the picture is showing doesnt seem to be a 13mm AP round.

The case will be the same... small.

A smaller load pushing a bigger bullet is not that good of a combination.

Velocity rules supreme.

I think you also need to keep in mind that most LW fighters only have 2 MGs. So it's going to take a lot more "time on target" to get it to pop than it would with 6 .50s. Hell, I have a hard time killing with the 4 .50s in the P-38 once my cannon is gone. Mostly when I fly LW, I just use the MGs to help "convince" a running target to turn.  Or to de-ack things.

Thx for that guys.

Furious and Deja, your link and pic was what I was looking for, thx.

After reading this, I really wish we could select what ammo to take along, I would leave the MG ammo in the Hangar!!!
