Hi all,

56 Firebirds were tasked with escorting 418th B26s to Leipzig, to hit a ammo Factory.

We encountered light resistance inbound, Fariz shot down a 109, and were RTB when lower 109s crept into the bomber group.

Several bombers were damaged but the bandits were driven off, it is at this point where JoGee was killed by Ack while chasing a 109 which he had damaged. AndyH also sustained damage and had to ditch also scoring hits on a 109.

We RTBed to A23 and had no further enemy contact.

On landing two P47 were found to have technical faults and could not roll again.

The last four p47s, rolled for Magdeburg, to attack a local depot, we encountered no enemy during the rest of the frame, and repetedly attacked the depot. During a low straffing run I was hit by debries and lost my life.

Skyman took command and RTBed the remaining fighters to A19 with a few minutes to go.

Grayarea.

Results :

Grayarea, some town buildings, died
Skyman, several town buildings RTB OK
Gremlin, several town buildings RTB OK

All

On behalf of No 418 RCAF Hornets, I want to thank all members of the Firebirds

Again this week our bombers made it to the target and successfully home thanks to their cover and their fighting skills :)

All eggs hit the factory and we await the damage report. Only two b26's of six sustained minor engine damage and all returned to base. :D

Again - thank you Firebirds!!

I was proud of all the allied squads. You guys did well.

I am not positive of the amount of kills the 56th FG had, but I think it was 7-9 total. We also worked on the depot north of 16 a little. We lost 3 P-47's and 5 survived.
