FlamingMissleSuperSpit

First off let me say I'm not accusing anyone of anything. It's just that I've never seen this happen in the MA before and I've been here about a year and a half now. I've seen similar events but they were only for a second or two when a p51 would catch fire then it would go back to normal, nothing like what I saw today.

Me and some squadmates were attempting to defend a field that was being overurn when I noticed a Flaming Missle with a Spit tag on it. Then it turned   and saddled my 6 (enter film), I then whacked the appropriate keys to begin filming. I proceeded to maneuver, in a feeble attempt to escape I tried dragging him through the town ack. Yeah, like thats gonna work, he has no tail section, no wings, and is on fire smoking like the buhgeezus and just waltzed throught the field ack (you can see the field ack hitting him in the beginning of the film). I then tried to up a few more times.

I mentioned on Ch1 that the spit at field X was being filmed. After a little banter a few folks suggested lag was the cause. I then stated that the other friendlies at the field saw the same FlamingMissle(spit) and inquired if they thought it was still lag. The responses were yes, It could still be lag, on his end.

If it was lag, howcome he was not warping?

If this is a fact of the game, I apologize for wasting anyones time.
Maybe I've been lucky not to see this anomoly up until now.

I will gladly e-mail the film to those who request it.

Typical lag problem, I`ve seen it a lot of times, previously.

Dont remember if have seen it in AH, but I saw it frequently (sp) in Warbirds when I flew over there.

You smell that? Do you smell that?
Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that.
I love the smell of napalm in the morning.
The smell, you know that gasoline smell, smelled like victory.

I don't know if this is the same problem, but every once in a while I will see a spit shoot flames out the back for a second or two.  It may happen with other planes but it was a spit the times I saw it.  Assumed it to be some lag bug.

I see lots of burning spits, but it doesn't bother me.

Especially if I set 'em on fire.

I've seen the occasional burst of flames from an aircraft, usually the p51, but I've never seen an Aircraft missing a tail-section and wings that was on fire and smoking maintain controlled flight as if it had no damage for a lengthy period of time (2-3 mins).

Just thought it was odd, maybe a bug, maybe something else.

Guess it was just one of those things. Like the time Jesse took the tires offluff'n his truck rims and did figure-eights on the Frozen pond in the back 40.

Hi,

I for one have been that burning meteor and actually shot a guy down while ablaze and wingless. At that time I was getting major packet loss which resulted in many weird things. That particular time I was discoed seconds after the incident and only knew what happened as the guy I shot down asked what was going on.
Just something to consider, not passing judgement on this particular case :)

What you need to remember is there is TWO distinct data streams, positional information of aircraft and server updates.

This is a bit of guesswork, but server updates include text messages, and damage information to your FE. Hence, you shoot a guy, his server connect is laggy, u see him as a flaming-spit-kebab but his FE just doesn't know it yet, so he keeps on flying.

Alot of the time.. when this happens, you'll also see that while he may be shooting at things... he isn't killing anything.

Vulcan pretty much summed it up.

Sounds plausible if it was a few seconds or so but from the description it sounds as if this was 15-30 secs or longer?

He killed a few things including me :D

Maybe his FE never recieved the damage packets to his aircraft at all. In theory couldn't I use a packet sniffer/jammer and toss the "damage packets" to my plane on the floor and accept the damage to others?

Then I would look like a FlamingMissle to everyone else, all the while shooting you down:cool:
