i can hear the whines now, HT puts in a 500 foot tall fire breathing 5000 perk point godzilla, and the best thing people will come up with is:

"You godzilla dweeb"

from a pure entertainment standpoint, manable squid vs. manable godzilla, while probably fun, doesn't quite fit into a "ww2 air-combat sim"

I don't know about the damage model but I do remember seeing some gun camera footage of Kirk Douglas taking out a squid with a harpoon and a knife. If he can do that then my 20mm on my La7 should make short work of that squid period.

My great-great-grandmother used to fly with the 522nd Squid Squadron in WW1.5, and she told me they regularly took down these squids with knitting needles and hatpins.
More proof that the squid is over modeled.
HTC fix the squid and I want Captain Nemo's Nautilus now.

.50 cals should not be able to penetrate the thick skin of the squid though.

Unless they shot infront of the squid so that the bullets bounced and hit the more vunerable parts of the squid.

Actually I heard an interview with a P47 pilot who said that he had killed plenty of squids that way.

Hortlund, before you come in here and spout you should check your data. Everybody knows the rounds from the 50's would have deformed to much from the impact on the water and couldn't cause significant damage to the squid, unless it was poorly maintained or had its mouth open.
