Toe Brakes
« on: April 28, 2002, 03:08:29 AM »
I am in the process of modifying a set of CH Pro Pedals to work the toe brake axis on a Cougar joystick.  This will give me left and right independent toe brakes in AH.  What I am not sure about is this.  Are the two right and left brakes in AH as effective as the main brake (spacebar) when both activated at the same time?  I ask this because I can setup the Cougar output so that the toe brakes work individually on the left and the right, or combine both signals logically in the stick so that only the main brake works.  I am trying to decide if there is any benefit in separate right and left brakes.

Hi Zeb

I use the CH Pro rudder pedals (USB) and have the toe brakes enabled.  You mention that you are trying to decide whether there is any benefit in having seperate left & right brakes and my answer would be yes.  I find the left or right toe brake can help enormously when taxiing and also on take-off or landing where you can apply very slight pressure to alter the direction of the plane.  Of course I'm still getting used to rudder pedals but I'm finding the toe brakes a lot more useful that I had originally anticipated.

As for the amount of brake pressure supplied by both left and right toe brakes, yes they are equal at full depression to the spacebar brake but have the advantage of being incremental.

Regards

Thank's Nexx.  I modified the pedals at work this afternoon and have just tried them.  They are brilliant.  I am using the CH Pro Pedals (Analogue) which plug directly into the Cougar.  This effectively turns them into USB pedals, but also gives me the axis shaping for them in the Cougar.  I had to invert the two toe brake axis but that wasn't a problem.

I must admit, I had not realised AH used analogue axis for toe brakes. I was all set to allocate key presses in Foxy till I looked a bit further into it after reading your reply.
