PBY, a great utility Plane for AH
« on: April 29, 2002, 10:07:20 AM »
saw last night a story on the PBY.
it could carry supplies, like a C47, but could also
carry 4000 lbs of bombs, or 2 Torpedos, with 2 .50
cal blister guns. show also said, it had a range
of 3000 mile and could stay aloft for 15 hours.

show said it sunk Uboats in atlantic, and did night time
raids on ships. even found the Bizmarkwhile it
was retreating under cloud/fog bank.

of course our would be the PBY-A (added wheels to it)
for landing on ground.

H8K2 "Emily" would be better.

Better in all ways.

I absolutely agree with Karnak. Of the flying boats, only H8K2 is even close to being a real heavy bomber, like B17 or Lanc.

Sadly the Cat only had a maximum altitude of 13,000 feet. Personaly i would love the kitty. Realy a "Black Cat" i would prefer.

the only thing Better than an Emily would be a Coronado, howeaver the Emily would do so Much for Japan that I feal it would be best, the Cat while a favorate of mine simply can not compeat with either of these two planes,The Emily is more Historicaly signastudmuffinant than the Coranado, and far more survivable than the Cat, commonly refered to as the best Flying boat of the War the Emily gets my Vote with the Coranado coming in a close second, LOOK at that bomb LOAD:)

PB2Y Coronado
Bomb's 8,000 internal and 4,000 external!
torpedo capable.
Eight 50cal MG's
223MPH

H8K "Emily"
4,410lb's of Bomb's
torpedo capable
five 20mm and three 7.7mm mg's
282MPH
