IL2 ... My thoughts....
« on: April 26, 2002, 06:02:16 PM »
Hmm well on my system:
Duron @ 975
512mb non DDR ram
GF2 MX 32 @ 800x600x16 no FSAA

The objects (planes) are UGLY...  at range .80 the aircraft in view are blurred blobs.  The views suck, of course AH spoiled me that way.  I can barely play any boxed sim any more for the views alone.

Frame rates... poor with most details lo or medium.
Can't get the FPS counter to show offline....(1.04)  The console doesn't come up at all.

v-sync off

Guess we'll take a look after I do my next major upgrade...

Seems like you are playing a different game. You need a higher resolution and 32bit to enjoy IL2 (or any modern game)
Try it again after you upgrade.

Yeah on a high end machine it is the best graphic and sound sim I have seen.  Really immersive.  It's solid as far as physics modeling, and the gameplay in single player is pretty good.  Probably the best boxed prop sim ever.  But no Spits and no TOD.  :)

PS You can set up the snap view directions almost exactly like AH.  Let me know if you need help.

What are your monitor's specifics? You should be able to get 32-bit res. out of that system.

I can get 32bit out of it, but not at a playable frame rate even at 8x6 +(

I have the snap views mapped but the non adjustable head pos... ick

The controls?  any idea how to scale a stick that is not on ID0? (1st in the list) My stick is considered the 2nd in IL2 and my pedals considered #1 so the scaling only affects them.

Something is wrong with your system... I get about 20-25 FPS on quick missions with lots of planes in the air with a PII 450 + GF 256 DDR. I can even play at full settings if I don't put more than 6-8 planes in the air at once. This is playing at 1024*768 and 32 bits of colour.

To show the FPS counter type fps START SHOW LOG 0 on the console (Shift + Tab).

1024x768 32 bit, all settings turned to max but for sound, which is down to 22, no hardware acc.

Use 1024x768, you will most probably get higher FPS than with 800x600!

Camo
CO, Lentolaivue 34
Brewster's in AH!

I'm not surprised you think IL2 is ugly with those system specs.
I run it at 1024x768, 32 bit with all the detail up full... it's as smooth as silk, and simply beautiful.
