Strange Connection problem
« on: April 18, 2002, 12:07:42 AM »
I've been messing around with AH offline since it first came out, and I'm really impressed with the progress it's made so far. I promissed myself that when they came out with a carrier, I'd get an account. Well, I signed up for a free trial a while back, and got to go online just once! Since then, I haven't been able to connect to Hitech at all.

I have Charter Pipeline cable. I got a router in order to have my wife's computer online as well (a necessity when you spend as much time online as I do!). Since getting the router, a 4 port Linksys, I can't get to Hitechcreations.com from my computer, or my wife's either.

If I take the router out, and plug the cable modem straight into my computer, I can get there with no problem. Is that WEIRD, or what?!!

Has anybody ever heard of this kind of problem before? If so, was there a solution besides taking the router out back and shooting it? I'm not having any trouble getting to any other site that I know of.

Any help, or suggestions would be greatly apperciated.

are you sure that your network router have no firewall built in? soryy, i'm not familiar with Linksys so i can't tell you that. It looks like that something is blockin prots so you can't go thru them.
That's the only rhing that comes to my mind... oyu can have open ports like 80 for webbrowser (defoult) and many others for email clients... icq.. some other services.. dunno, but you need to open some "extra" ports to play AH (unfortunatelly don't remember this values). If it's firewall then you can reconfigure it. RTFM like some of guys saying, but serious - 1st thing to do is to read your router manual. if you can't find a thing about opening ports, then contact Linksys tech. support or reseller...
IT need to be firewall :-)

Thanks Bike, I'll check the manual. Yes, the router has a built in firewall, however, it doesn't prevent me from playing online in WarBirds, or IL2. I can use RW with no problem too. The only thing I can't do (besides go to hitechcreations.com) is host anything due to the firewall.

I'm on the road right now, so I'll have to wait till I get back home before I can do that. I was just hoping that someone might have a simple answer. Most of my problems with computers are usually solved by a simple answer! :o

I use a 3 port USB DSL/Cable Router, what firmware are you running? I had to downgrade to 1.37 in the BEFSRU31 because of MTU problems.

Aurelius, I'm not sure of the exact model number, however it is a four port router. Not the wireless type either. I'm still out on the road, so I can't look at it to give details.

I'll be home on the 8th. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
