Actually, the last season of the original six was 1967 and the winner of the Stanley Cup the last year of the original six was the Toronto Maple Leafs...not the Montreal Canadians.
NOTE: As everyone knows, the season is spread over two calendar years. The calendar year in which the season ends is always used when a single year is used to describe a season.
The next season, 1968 or 67/68, the league expanded to 12 teams in two divisions. The East division contained the original six teams and the West division contained 6 new teams...Philadelphia, Los Angeles, St.Louis, Pittsburgh, Oakland and Minnesota.

P.S. If you still don't believe me, you can do what I've done about 50 times in the last couple of years. Go to the ACC in Toronto to see a Leaf game and look up in the rafters over the ice. You'll notice a Stanley Cup banner hanging there that says...you guessed it....1967.
