In the guns, you can put it into land mode(w i think) then click on the map, and it will line the gun up on that point.

Anyone know how sea mode works?

Sea mode basicly tracks a target no matter which way your ship moves.

Ussually prefer land mode for most of my shooting

Q is the normal mode - you have full control of the gun.  W is "land mode" and E is "sea mode" - for an explanation of these modes see:  http://www.hitechcreations.com/fleet.html

I mainly use the "land mode" when attacking a field - after hitting W (or whatever key you have "land mode" mapped to if not the default) bring up the clipboard and zoom right into the map, click on the target field, and the gun will automatically align itself, and will stay lined up regardless of how the ship moves..... the only exception being if the ship turns so that the gun cannot physically remain pointed at the field, when it will then swing around to line up from the opposite side.

I also use the "pan" view to try to see where my shells are hitting if they are in visible range, not hidden by a hill....  hit F8 for pan mode and then zoom in to the field and use the view keys, so that you can watch the shells without having to lower the gun...  :)

I have never properly sussed out the "sea mode"...

I haven't read HTC's explanation but from my experience SEA MODE maintains range and aim (errmm direction on the compass) of the gun no matter what the ship does.  land mode maintains aim point by adjusting range depending on your ships movement.  SEA always holds the range u choose.
