Lt Hans, I agree with you.  The German's called the B-17 "the flying coffin", and the B29 was never known for it's "toughness", only range and payload.

B-17 was the turning point of WWII.  Cheap, made a toejamload of them, lost alot, but production always ran 24/7.  Without it, Europe might have been a different place.
