Well, my son's old Celeron 466 or whatever it was has developed what I think is a Motherboard failure, possibly CPU. Tried all sorts of things, new RAM, new MB battery, switched things around... lots of hours fooling with it. Still won't post up, just a blank screen on boot 96% of the time. 96%? Yeah, well, it will boot and run about 4 times in every 100 tries. >
Anyway, I'm thinking of replacing the old slug rather than fool with it any more. It's awfully slow now in any event.
So, were I to go with an Athlon XP 1800 or so what's a decent MB for that? He's going to get to keep his SB Live and his GF2 MX400 because right now I don't have a lot of extra bucks to toss at the bells and whistles. Just want to get him up and running for now. He can buy his own sound and video later as he sees fit.
Also, on the DDR RAM the PC 2700 and the PC 2400 are within a buck or two of each other and about $20 more than the PC 2100. Any benefit to the 2700 or 2400 considering future uses?
Thanks in advance!
