Pyro/Hitech, How Will Icons For New Buff Trios Look?
« on: May 27, 2002, 07:54:27 PM »
From both enemy and friendly views, will there be one icon, or three?

How about when a wounded straggler gets separated from the lead?

Also, how long or far away will stragglers continue once separated from the lead?

Thanks,

eskimo

I think the answers to this is in Pyro's announcement.

Your right!

"That invisible silver cord is rather short, probably 1000 yards or less, so you don’t want to be doing wild maneuvers and you’ll have to decide whether you want to try and stay with your stragglers or leave them in the dust and write them off. "

I got the impression that the "silver cord" refers to how far away they (drones) can get and still follow the leader.  Once that cord breaks cause the drone is too far away what happens?

Yeah thats what I'm wondering about. Does it keep flying untill it's killed or runs out of fuel? Does it fly for a few mins and despawn? What penatly do you get for losing a buff? (IE how will it count?) and so on

From Pyro's post

"If they become separated, they won’t rendezvous at target or head home or anything like that, they will simply be lost/destroyed.

When you take a formation up, all planes in that formation count for kills and deaths. As the bombers in your formation get killed, they count as a death for you and as a kill for the attacker"

I don't have a verifiable answer to the original question, but I suspect an enemy will see 3 red B-17 icons. Friendlys will probably see 2 green B-17 icons, and one with the pilots handle.

Just my thoughts on it;)

when HT was online a few days ago , I ask him about
icons, and they haven't decided yet how they would look

Well to your enemies it should just read "B17"

To friends.. I think having the same player's name over his 3 buffs is  a no brainer.

Either way, the overlap would create an unreadable mess.

only if you viewing them from certain angles. You can still read the names off people flying in a mission, even if they 15+ people flying in semi-formation less than d500 from each other.

Is there some benefit in knowing if the 3 buffs are piloted by one pilot vs piloted by 3 pilots in very good formation?  The choice in icons could help determine this fact, but not sure it matters.

Will fighters attack differently if they know from the icon
that there is one person in three buffs or 3 people in
three buff

Each buff will count as a kill, so let each have an icon
