I believe funked is right.  A circus needs a couple of bombers to get the LW up and to bait.

I flew it and it was fun.  My fears were not not confirmed.  The organizers used good mission plans to make sure nothing silly happened.

Circuses were pretty big, and often the Germans were engaged before they found the handful of bombers amidst the sea of Spits, so I guess we were in that part of a Circus.
