June 6, 1944, Operation Overlord commences with the storming of Omaha and Utah beaches of Normandy, France.

I think tonight I'll watch my DVD of "Saving Private Ryan"...

Here's some trivia...

Did you know that James Doohan ('Scotty' from Star Trek) was injured while taking part in the invasion of Normandy?

http://us.imdb.com/Bio?Doohan,+James

From http://us.imdb.com/Trivia?0120815;

"Many veterans of D-Day have congratulated director Steven Spielberg for the film's authenticity, including actor James Doohan, best known as Scotty from Star Trek. Doohan lost the middle finger of his right hand and was wounded in the leg during the war. He commended Spielberg for not leaving out any gory details."
