Dammo.. no license here. But I have about 30 touch 'n go's; and about 50 hours transit stick time in a Piper Dakota. (Cherokee on steroids)

My boss has the plane and was always naggin me about going places. Sadly the first few times we were up; I was less than impressed with his skills (he wuz a newbie) and I was less than charmed by sittin there with my feet tucked back and my arms crossed. Next time he asked me up I said "OK; butcha gotta let me fly the damn thing.. sittin there lettin my bellybutton pinch the seat is puttin a crimp on my butt muscles, and yer seat's not too happy either".

Now my boss and I have been building and flying R/C since we were kids, and I always did kick his bellybutton in pattern and sport aerobatic contests, (not to mention WB's) so I had no qualms about tryin out his Dakota... if he'd let me. Needless to say, he was a bit reluctant till I made a suggestion...

He took me up with a close mutual R/C friend who's a CFI (boss stayed in the back for this ride) and he let me feel the plane out, and shortly I was shootin TnG's at a unused strip. The guy pronounced me a 'natural' after a coupla hours of gradually increasing degree of difficulty tasks and we even did some unatural attitude recovery stuff. We all had a blast, the boss got some great instruction on crisis management. The only thing I find intimidating in that cockpit nowdays is the freakin radios and the boss has a decent right seat relief pilot for the long hauls

I got 35 hours total in a 172, 152, T-38, and Piper Cherrokee. And I'm only 16!   BRING IT ON FAA TEST! BRING IT! Can't wait to get my license when I'm 17!

Only when i smoke sometimes DW

Just kidding u make me jelous. it costs to much money here to get a licence what it costs to maintain ur licence. Also our airspace is very restricted also can't make much fun here.

Really had some serious toughts on it.

Offcourse there is a way when u really want to.
So i hope to see myself on a glider sometime.

In reallife i jumped 8 times parachute when i was in service. I took over steer and flown a piper bonzana over my house and around even tracked a ils beam   only once on a fortunated occasion. To bad he (the pilot)wanted to land himself again. It was a very enjoyable 15 minutes.

Got that occasion because my father works on an airfield(mechanic)

Luckily we have flightsims these days where u can do thing what in reallife costs u ur flyinglicense   .. and more probably ur life too err.

Hello!

Got 200+ hours to date, would have more but the damn rental is either in use by a student, or in the shop being fixed cuz of a student  (we had a kid bounce the nose wheel so hard that the firewall mount to the nose wheel strut was buckled.  We tease the kid now, asking he use the other 2 wheels too)

So, weary of renting and wanting to fly faster stuff, I bought a partially complete BD-5T (turbine) kit.  I'm no builder, so its going off to Oregon in a few months to have engine, electronics and all those other GOODIES put in.  Not sure the paint job yet, leaning towards a Blue Angels colors but I change my mind almost daily.

Big challenge is getting training in high performance aircraft and parachuting lessons, in case I ever have to landing without her

Here's a shot of me and my BD-5.  Wings are off since its easier to work on the cockpit with em off.

1946 Aeronca Champ, big fat tires for summer, snow skis for the Michigan winter, based at Larson's field, a grass strip near Willow Run Airport, Michigan.

(sold it to buy my wife a piano... major mistake... got divorced a year and a half later)

Vyper I miss my days in Colchester <G> spent 27 years in VT and used to have a big boat over on Mallets Bay and watched you guys fly from across the tarmac at Burlington airport.

I lived in Barre so didn't get to watch VTANG as much as would have liked <S> I am jealous <G>

Geee LePaul she's a Beauty !

There's a BD-5 with a piston engine here in Austria (i know some hombuilders here and i've been at some of their fly-ins) and that one was already lightning fast   ca't imagine what kind of performance you'll see with the Turbo-Prop !

PP-SEL, about 150 hours, about 50 tailwheel, will never fly a tricycle gear airplane again.

Currently working up to sportsman aerobatics competition in the Decathlon (shown below), but I will move to Germany this summer and probably won't be able to continue.

I've slightly more than 200 hours each in Rotorcraft (R-22, Enstrom) and SEL planes (C172). PPL only. Instrument, MEL someday when I find that rich woman to take care of me.

I got my rotorcraft ticket first, because I knew I wanted to do both, and had heard from some CFIs that airplane pilots had some really bad habits in helicopters.
But that goes both ways, too. 60 kts sure did seem awful damn fast for landing an aircraft! Although there is this helicopter maneuver called "running takeoff/landing"... AH1G can appreciate that I bet <S>. Lucky dog, I'd love to fly the loach someday.

Vyper:

I'm up here in Bangor, and we have KC-135s up here.  I was in the Air Guard for a few years here and not that long ago, we had 2 or 3 F-16s here that would scramble when the Over the Horizon Radar would pick up a inexplained dot.  If I recall, you guys scrambled a few times and intercepted some Russian bombers well off the coast.  If memory serves, the Cape Cod ANG F-15s replaced you guys and also escorted a few Russian bombers, probing our defenses, away.

For what its worth, you guys gave the better show when you guys returned to base and burned off the rest of your gas

DuckWing:  I think the BD-5 you mention is pictured on www.bd-micro.com  website (they make the BD-5 kits).  If I recall the news from a few months back, I beleive they hold the speed record for a recip aircraft under 400 pounds.  Dont quote me, I'll have to research it.
