Damn, we had a riot in the very center of Moscow, 200m from Kremlin, at the Manezhnaya square and all the way up the Tverskaya street...

At least one killed, and a Militia warrior died in a hospital today... Cars burning, shop windows all broken, over 150 wounded, almost 80 still in hospitals... All because of a stupid football game... Some drunk amazinhunks have beaten the Chineese female students of Moscow Conservatory...

Never saw anything like that before. In fact - couldn't even think such things can happen. And I am still 100% sure that it can't happen in any other Russian city except Moscow...

What did Western media say about this? I wonder about their attitude...

I heard about it on the news, but they didn't give it much coverage.   We have that kind of crap over hear in a couple of major cities every year after some sort of championship, though nobody usualy dies from it.  Lot of idiots out there.......

Not to belittle your problems Boroda but some of us in the west have our own problems to worry about.

Well, we have our home-brew terrorists here too... :( War still goes on in Chechnya, soldiers die there every day. :(

What stunned me is that such things happen 200m from Kremlin, and our beloved Militia does nothing to stop the hooligans!

In 1999 I worked at a concert in the Revolution square, 200m from the place where that riot started. It was horrible. We were on the sound-engineer's stand in the middle of the crowd, and only a platoon of riot militia saved us from being crashed by the crowd... Later I understood that such things can happen only in Moscow. In Krasnodar we had the same programm in open air, and it took only 2 (two) kossaks to keep the crowd away from the stand. They were extremely polite, and the crowd was friendly too, unlike what we saw in Moscow...

Nothing like that happened here before. I only can thank god that militia didn't start shooting at the crowd. Some people already say that it's Western "cultural influence" :(

Does Western here mean the US?

Cuz if it does, those are some seriously dilluted individuals if they think our culture influences riots. Riots aren't limited to solely US soil, hell, check out your south/southeastern neighbor... China.

First report of a football riot that I remember was that famous Juventus-Liverpool clash in 1985 (IIRC). We know football hooligans to be a "native-European" thing, not American.

I am surprised that Zyuganov, our commie "leader" didn't say that yet. They blame "Western influence" for all our troubles including prostitution and illegal drugs. Now we have football riots just like in Europe :(

That riot will be used (and already is) by different political groups here. Moscow city government blames Federals for almost anything including "sabotage", and wants to get rid of a Moscow Militia chief who was "suggested" by Federal government, and to put their representative in that chair. Federal government blames Moscow authorities. President will use it to force the "anti-extremism" law through parliament. Commies will blame everyone and say "when we ruled the country such things never happened" etc. ad nauseum.
