SB Live 5.1
« on: June 12, 2002, 03:12:18 AM »
I just installed a Creative SB Live 5.1 card.  It seems the microphone is open all the time in windows.  Always on.  It is inserted in the right plug.  In Aces High it seems no one hears me......but I hear others fine.  In the Windows recorder I have the MIC turned up, and as I said before it works in windows always.  When I hit the transmit key in windows recorder it gives me the windows error sound .......but I don't need to use the T key anyway the mic is always open.  Any solutions sportsfans?  I do have the 20db+ selected in windows for the Mic.  Using the transmit key in AH makes no difference......no one hears!

Can you hear your own voice through when you try to use the mic in AH?

This is a long shot and often overlooked.  Mute the mic.  I had the same prob when somehow the "line in" mute was checked rather than the "microphone".

Many have experienced the same or similar problems as you with the SBLive cards. Some say that disabling SB16 or legacy emulation (not sure which as I have an Audigy) in the control solves the problem. Others have reported that it doesn't for them.

A few in my squad that have SBLive cards work fine for a while and then lose the ability to transmit and sometimes the ability to hear also.

I had a lot of trouble with my Audigy for a while. I tried so many things so many times, including 3 different motherboards, that I'm not sure what finally made it stable. While it seems unlikely, it's seems to have been affected most when I got a usb joystick and stopped using the gameport. Like yours, mine always worked fine in the windows recorder.

Anyone know how one disables SB16?

I think Rob53 may be on the right track.  I have SB Live and WIN XP.  Mic is checked in Windows Record Control (volume control) but  muted in Creative Mixer. Mine did same thing before I muted in mixer.  Hope it works.
