Bell Atlantic is now to be Meucci Atlantic?
« on: June 18, 2002, 02:51:30 PM »
Well, go figure, the US Congress has finally accepted that Antonio Meucci invented the telephone, and that Western Union stole the idea from him because he did not have $10 to renew his patent.

It goes to prove that you could do great things in the US of A in those years... if you had dough, good knowledge of english, and better lawyers than a big corporation.

Fortunately, things have changed... right? :D

The Chinese invented the first oil well, using hollow bamboo with bronse tips, they were able to get about 300 feet down and that was in 2000 BC. Guess they should get a cut of the oil boom of the 19th/20th century? ;)

I invented the Club Sandwich and haven't gotten a dime from it.  I even have to pay for one when I go to a dinner.   Life sucks.....

Nice replies, but what I meant is that he actually patented it... then Western Union stole it from him and... that's it, Graham Bell, employee of Western Union, invented the telephone.

unless the laws were  different then,  you cannot renew a patent, a patent is only good for 7 years then any one can use it

Not at that time I guess... the NY State court ruled in favor of this poor fella...

What strikes me is that up to now the invention of the telephone was attributed to Graham Bell... (not in Italy, from what I've heard).

Anyway, it's fixed now...
