After Touching Down On The Carrier....
« on: June 16, 2002, 06:19:43 AM »
OK, this old newb has just learned the art of landing "a few" planes on the carrier. However, with some planes, especally the F4Us, my nose on touch down isn't exactly straight and aligned with the deck so I try to align it after coming to a halt.....
The problem is that once I release the hook, by applying minimum throttle, the damn plane starts reversing and wont stop even after I press wheelbrakes and kill throttle......
Any ideas as to how to prevent this?????
(will try to post screenies later)

hmm wind +)

Thats part of the trick to getting a fully loaded dhog off the deck of a cv.. use the wind to back up to the end of the deck.

Rolling right off the back without being able to stop is a new one +Q

Have u tried giving it throttle instead?

oh btw... u say after releasing the hook by applying minimum throttle... thats the parking brake.. shift g is for the hook..

You just got to give it even more throttle. But I dont bother I just use rudder as I roll to get back to the middle.
The wind will, push you back at low throttle setting,
even so you should be able to stop with your brakes ok ????

You can take off with a fully loaded hog if you use wep and full flaps. Pull your gear up first and then one notch of flaps about every 5 or 10 seconds as you gain speed. Remember not to try to climb, fly straight and level untill you get your flaps all the way up.

Recently  my squad has been practicing for the TOD's and this meant being able to take off and land on a carrier.

To take off you reverse as has been explained but on landing i had the same problem of being catapulted back off the deck.

To release the tail hook you simpley have to bring it back up, if you touch the throttle at all while it is down it will catapult you off the deck.

it makes sense having to bring the tail hook up because if you don't you still attached to the deck and it's going to pull you back.............in this case for me catapult me off the deck.

Hope thias helps.
