Knowing little about GV's,
« on: June 18, 2002, 11:39:29 AM »
So I would like to know what GV's would be most appreciated in any uncoming AH update.

I know very little about WWII armor, and I understand AH is primarily a Combat Flight Sim. I also appreciate all the effort that will bring about 1.10, especially the "Havoc"and the P-40.

However, we have all these GV perk points and nothing to spend them on.

So what would be a good GV/Armor/Boat Addition to AH, in your opinion?

Maybe something like whats happening with the bombers in 1.10 could be done for the GV's while adding one or 2 new vehicles.

Maybe something like mobile artillary with support.

ex.  2 or 3 artillary pieces along with an ammo truck and 1 or 2 M16's or some other light GV for defense against jabo.

What, like a duece and a half, towing a howitzer or something?

A jeep with a 50 cal on it would be fun, but I can't imagine what purpose it would serve aside from strafing troops entering the town. Hmmm...

Yea something like that but I would think that you'd want to have more than one, kinda like the bombers are going to be. You would need something along with them for defense, maybe a flak or 2.

Say 6 vehicles for 20 perk points: You get 2 artillary guns and their tow vehicles, and 2 osties or m-16's.

I love the artillery battery (right word?) idea.  You drive within range and press abutton to set them up... make you wait for say, five minutes while they set up.  In the meantime, you have a couple of M-16's for AA.  When they are set up (has to be level ground), just click on the map where you want to target, and fire until outta ammo or you change target.  Spawn points would have to be different though I think.  And it would give a good target for the jabo's to attack.  Could be fun, could suck.  :)

A C47 that tows two Gliders. The purpose would be taking down a functional vehicle field with armed troops alone. Just imagine the perks you could charge for that! You could even add a jeep for the mission.

Well, I wish! :D

All descriptive adjectives below are in comparison with the PzIVH or whatever other type of existing vehicle is appliable.

Wish List for Unperked GVs:
  • T-34/76:  good speed but no TC position or no forward view therefrom, depending on how HTC decides to implement 2-man turret.
  • T-34/85:  decent gun, decent speed, TC position, but more HE than AP.  Basically a wash for the PzIVH tank-to-tank while AP ammo lasts, but somewhat better at busting buildings.
  • M4A3(75)W:  stabilized gun, decent speed, high ammo capacity, better performance on slopes, but big target and easy to kill.
  • SU-85:  T-34/85's gun although no turret, but more AP ammo and smaller target
  • Hetzer:  better armor, smaller, higher speed, but no turret and lower ammo capacity.
  • SdKfz 7/1:  flak halftrack with 4x20mm but no armor
  • 3" GMC M10:  slightly faster, good gun, but weaker armor and open top so very vulnerable to strafing
  • T-70:  gun only really useful vs. light vehicles, weak armor, but fast.  However, only 1-man turret so has T-34/76's problems only worse.

Wish List for Slightly Perked GVs:
  • Panther G:  incredible gun, great frontal armor, decent speed, but weak enough sides where even a Greyhound could get it, and slow turret traverse.
  • PzIV/70:  Panther's gun, small target, nasty frontal armor, but no turret and limited traverse.
  • SU-100:  basically similar to PzIV/70, plus or minus various traits
  • 76mm GMC M18:  fastest tracked AFV of WW2 (and still in the top 10 AFAIK), very small target, but weak armor and open top
  • 90mm GMC M36:  decent speed, gun dangerous to heavy tanks, but weak armor and open top
  • KV-1:  good armor but slower.  Also, effectively only 2-man turret.

Wish List for Moderately Perked GVs
  • IS-2:  awesome armor, killer gun, but very low ROF, slow, not that much ammo, and way more HE than AP
  • Tiger I:  very good armor, good gun, but slow
  • Wirbelwind:  flakpanzer with 4x20mm
  • Jagdpanther:  King Tiger's gun but no turret, great frontal armor, decent speed
  • SU- or ISU-152:  durable building-dropper, although it can hurt all other vehicles with the few AP rounds it carries.

Wish List for Highly Perked GVs
  • King Tiger:  awesome armor, awesome gun, but slow and slow turret traverse
  • IS-3:  like the IS-2 only better armor and a somewhat smaller target
