Closed on Baltic Avenue

As of yesterday at 1000 CDT I am the proud owner of a new property now giving me Mediterranean and Baltic avenue’s.

Roll high around GO because the rent is going to be steep!  I think a whopping $2.  Drawing from the community chest hasn’t hurt and so far my chance cards have been tolerable.

Like Gene Hackman said, I’m just another duck on the water.  Everything looks fine on the surface but those feet are churning a hundred miles an hour trying to keep up :D.

Yep, I move out and in this Saturday.

I’ve already made lots of friends in the new neighborhood.  The neighbor on the west has their fence two feet in my property, it’s being moved.  The neighbor on the east got bent out of shape when the “fence company” was laying the stakes.  That’s where she was wrong, it wasn’t the fence company it was the surveyors shooting the property line.  The neighbors’ just north have about 20% of their landscaping in my property line.  So yeah, I’m making friends fast and quick.

The house I’m moving out of I hope to have renovations done by August and get someone in as a renter by September.

What I’d like to know is when the hell did I turn into an adult? :)

LOL...great fun isn't it?

I bought my first house in Toronto when I was still in university.  2 friends of mine moved in and paid rent to offset the costs - mortgage etc.  About three months after we moved in a Russian guy moved next door with his family.  The fun started the day after he moved in.  He showed up at my door complaining about loud music.  It wasn't particularly loud, but I turned it down anyway.  Ten minutes later he was at my door again.  I turned it down again, and being a nice friendly neighboor gave the guy my telephone number so that if he had a complaint he could call instead of having to come over.

I received about 30 calls in his first week.

He then got on to the police.  The cops were at my house 2 times a day for the first month he was there...gradually reduced to about once a week over the following 6 months.

He was such an prettythanghole that we used to turn up the music really loud and then leave.

We eventually figured out that he assumed that we were renting the house and that he could bully us into moving out.  It was soooo much fun to see the look on his face when the cops told him I OWNED the house.

A year later my dog attacked the entire family as they were getting out of their car...their son would tease the dog every chance he got and I happened to arrive home in my car just as the family arrived home one day.  The dog jumped over me when I opened the driver side door and went for the kid.

I ended up in court where they tried to have my dog put down.  They were unsucessful.  The next day I had to throw away a dead cat that had been poisoned and which appeared on my driveway.

Eventually the cops figured out that we were not the problem and as it turned out arrested him for fraudulently aquiring construction supplies that he had "charged" to another person on the street.  The company delivered the goods to the house across the street and in the middle of the night the Russian guy and his brother grabbed it all.

All good fun!

Congrats Travis!

Re: 2 ft. property line: You might want to offer help in moving it, nothing worse than being at odds with new neighbors.

Good luck!  When is the house trashing , er...house warming party? ;)

Yeah, I’m footing the bill for the whole fence.  Long story but the first argument she had was that she wasn’t the one that put it up.  I was counting on paying for it all anyway.

Haven’t quite set a date for the party but you’ll be more than welcome to come.  I’ll have a room set up and everything for the stay.  Of course, transportation is not included. :)

I’ll keep a look out for shifty Russians Curval. :)

Fences are lots of fun.  I put one up in my backyard when my daughter was on the way.  The Condo's next door had a cow.  Claimed they had an easement on my property for landscaping.  I put up the fence, the Condo president was on the board of directors where my wife worked.  He introduced himself to her, at work, as a board member and wanted to schedule some time for her to discuss the fence.  Two weeks later, and one completed fence, she was fired.

I invited the local kindergarden class to paint the outside of my fence as an art project.  Several thousand lawyer dollars later, the Condo group paid me to have the fence repainted.

:)

This type of behaviour really gets me angry...she should have sued for wrongful dismissal!

This makes me smile.  Nice one!
