I have just experienced my 3rd disco of the night.

What can I do to track down the problem and maybe fix it?

TY in advance,

Ping Plotter

I used ping plotter and it seems that my avg ping is 30-40 but I get a few 200-300+ pings from a Dallas site.

I think thats the HiTech Host and your just experiencing growning pains. I know theres some issue with your new pipeline or something. Am I correct in my assumption or do you need more info?

Thanks for the help.

Based upon the current plague of discos effecting the majority of players, I'd say that the problem is not with your connection, but rather with HTC. They just polled to MA to get an idea of the commonality of the problem. I'm sure it is being addressed in typical HTC fashion, which means quickly. However, it is very annoying to watch your K/D go down the toilet due to no fault of your own. Discos of undamaged aircraft should not count as deaths, at least until this issue is resolved.

im more inclined to say its neither yours nor htc's "fault" widewing.

HTC does its best to get the best connect for their game, and it does seem to work for a lot of folks here. Heck, we all still wait for Skuzzy to be their ISP once more, we never had any problems with him.

One thing you can do is get yourself a new ISP and see if the route is shorter. Best way to do this is to find someone that has that ISP and traceroute to HTC MA server. I did this with my cable modem (ROADRUNNER) and was getting HORRIBLE pings (280ms sheesh). Went to a friend's house who had Bellsouth DSL.. did the traceroute.. and he had 45ms all the way to HTC. Thats pretty darn good. The hops his DSL took were not only less (my cable did like 22 hops, his DSL did 8) but also had lower pings (his =~30 to 80 ms, my cable went from 140 to 320).

Now, I dont even want to THINK what single-digit pings i'll get with my newly ordered DSL (getting it  jul 2) AND when Skuzzy makes his comeback.

booyah!

Tac, I use AT&T Worldnet. My pings vary from 120 to 180 for the MA. I'm still pinging this when the MA connection becomes unstable. I see the message buffer lock up and check net status to find long duration spikes in the variance of delay, followed by the disco. This is a new problem. Virtually all discos prior to this resulted from my ISP dropping me. This new problem is not related to my ISP. It's directly related to the router change. Remember, it only happens when I'm in the MA.

I never really have had too many discos but I still experience them from time to time and its sure a bummer. The problem that I have is that the connection seems to favor the more maneuvorable planeset such as spits and nikis or la-7s (fast in a fite). Many times when I'm engaged with them and have to make life or deth desicions on whether to commit to a move or tactic then only to be disappointed because of a spitfires constant glitching or an la-7 thats too sticky to shoot at. Also whats disappointing is the gun FM but perhgaps its not the FM thats the culprit. Yesterday something occured to me. I was fiting a typhy that had slight alt on me and I was flying a 109-G6. The typhy made a mistake and I capitalized on it getting a round into his canopy area. From that point on, I was on his 6 and we went for the deck. Cool I thought. Well maybe not as I learned. I just could not nail this typhy. At D4 and D3 with him maneuvering in front I shot shot shot but to no avail. What was interesting was that my piper was here but my rounds went way over there. Man o man what a drop. Hows this possible. Is it the networking thats causing the time difference thus registering my bullet arc way severe than normal. Sometimes its so obvios that the con is right in front of me but my rounds fall clear short of him. I figure the netywork lag could be playing a role in the arc of the rounds. Is this a possibility? Anyways I feel that the network issuse if any could possibly be playing too important a role in handicapping fiters that are less nimble.
