Friday night I participated in my second TOD. It was awesome no dar relying on wingmen and vox for comms. 30K alt engaging swarms of g-10's.
The most adrenalin rush you will get is hearing a wingman say "contact  heading 260 co-alt".
I guess what im trying to say here is TOD is a good representation of how it was no dar indicators relying on wingmen to survive. For those of you who havent tried please do so it is an eye opener.
I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the organizers of this event and say "thanks"
To my squadmate in the 56th oblitoo who saved my bellybutton from a dead 6 g-10 i would like to say "beers on me bud":D

I've got a question, why the squad-only restriction?  I'm a serious player, but I have no interest in squads, why can't I show up as a walk-on or register in advance as a solo pilot?

Additionally, I have no interest in filling some squad guest position, I'm just curious why it's set up this way.

because its a squad based event :)

Designed that way from the start. Certain squads asked for an event that run based on squad structure. The squads plan everything. They rely on their internal structure to carry through the plans.

Theres Scenarios, and other events that rely on walkons.

TOD relies on squad commitment numbers and those numbers are used to balance the sides. TOD wont work with walkons who may / may not show up from one frame to the next. You cant plan an event like this without having a structure in place that allows for detailed planning.

You cant count on walkons to organize themselzes into a command structure. You cant count on walkons to know all the details of the Frame. You cant count on walkons to put out a detail plan.

TOD doesnt exist without the structure and order provided by the squads. We all have decided that an open door policy toward walkons has to great an impact on the organization that squads supply.

Walkon1: what plane?
what field?
I wanna fly a 51?
Theres no 51s?
where are we going?
What are we hitting?
Do I need drop tanks?
whos my wingman?
why is know one being helpfull?
This sux theres no organization!!!!

multiply that by 200 walkons

Folks in squads know where what when and how at roll.

I can go on for an hour but you get the point right?

TOD is a squad based event,,,,,,,, thats why its for squads :)

If you really had an interest, then you would take the time and grab one of those guest slots to check it out.

You dont have to be a member of the TOD squad in the MA.  Join the TOD squad and lone-wolf it in the MA if ya want.  The squads are separate to each arena.  In fact there are several TOD squads that are made up of guys from several different MA squads who for whatever reason couldnt field enough guys by themselves, so they formed a coalition of sorts.

You really should check it out.  Grab a guest slot for a week or two and if you enjoy it ask for membership in the TOD squad.  It wont affect your squad affiliation in the MA whatsoever.

332nd Flying Mongrels will almost always be glad to have a guest fly with us for a tour.

If you like it you may want to consider joining a TOD squad. IT doesn't have to be the same as your MA squad like the guys mentioned.

TOD is the best flying in AH, and ALL you have to do is join a squad to fly in it.

It was a blast. Attacking a box of B17s in a 262 really gets the adrenaline pumping

Especially when I see the bombers, head in, compress, and rip the damn wings off.

That's what I get for never buying them in the MA, I guess!

My TOD squad ahs hosted many Guest. We have a seperate email just for those in the TOD Squad.

We had one grp of pilots who flew with us until they could form thier own TOD Squad.

You would be more than welcome to take a test ride with us if you like.

There are also Snapshot and Check 6 events coming soon that will cater to walkons.
