Poop takes the hook...........

Checks Apache's score..

Eh ??

Stares at the numbers that represent pathetic...

Reevaluates his own performance taking into account the new benchmark for pathetic...

And the cold realization slowly sinks in..

Tells his wife to bring the 45, one bullet and a pillow...

..and a muffled shot comes from the backyard....

Scramble my friend lets talk.

I subscribe to the theory put forth by Liz that 85 or 90% of us enjoy flying historical 10% of the time. It's fun.

But on the other hand the vast majority find the "Turkey shoot" as you describe it as our main staple for entertainment 90% of the time.

Saying..

All this crap about scores represents to me everything that's wrong with Aces High

Is incorrect.

The "Turkey shoot" is why there's 275 plus in the Main on a nightly basis.

Like it or not ( enjoy the hell out of it myself ) the Main MAKES the game.

Take a look at WB. The Main is dead. Is the Sim far behind ??? In the S3 last night 5 squadies and one guest showed up out of a squad of 32...Out of thirty-two Scramble. The Main there is DEAD.

Those people like yourself that find flying historical 90% of the time are in the vast minority. Lashing out, saying we don't have a clue is misdirected.

The Main is there for anything you might want. The variety of what can be done in the Main here is great. Boats and guns and oh my. You can all pick what you want to "play" with. The Main is all about being a kid and playing.  I play being a Souless Dix ;) Floats my boat, I'm not "recreating" anything. I'm lookin for a co-alt 1 on 1 where I can beat the living poop out of him. Jeez I think I have had a half dozen this tour. THAT is fun for me.

Other arenas are available on a 24/7 time basis provide a place for those that care to partake in the historical settings. The TOD is alot of fun and I'm there every week, unless semicomatose..

But saying that because we don't fly historical 100% of the time, we are a bunch of dweebs is...

probably true.

:D

I enjoy both ends of AH, the down and dirty furball and the historical setting.  I play them both, I enjoy them both.

....everything that is wrong with Aces High!

I find nothing wrong with Aces High because of 1 reason!  I dont look for it.  If one want s to furball, great!  If one wants to vulch, that is super.  If one wants to fly a B-17 at 37K feet, I applaud that person.  If someone wants to talk smack, then let it flow baby!!  :)

AH virtual pilots come from all walks of life and cultures.  We are a huge melting pot!  Sometimes this takes people alittle while to get use to!

Have A Nice Day!!

Widewing -  Being "nice" has absolutely no bearing on this issue at all.

All this crap about scores represents to me everything that's wrong with Aces High. We're so preoccupied with personal achievement, and that is so far from how the real war was. But people on this board have said openly that they're not interested in the war; they are interested only in the individual skirmishes, ie. padding their own scores, and to hell with strat. Threads like this are of no value, and serve only to enhance the gangbang element. I throw my head in my hands and cringe when the call goes up for Tiffies, P38s, LANCs, B17s, Goons because a mission is about to embark on the capture of a small field. And when the purely inevitable result is achieved (after all of 10 minutes) all the WTFG/virtual high fives that come up on the text buffer make me want to puke. The results of the mission will be that some guys got a couple of back to back six kill sorties - a feat which I have accomplished myself by the way - and it's the stats from that kind of mission that are being hyped right here in this thread.

If you want a Line 'em up, shoot 'em down turkey shoot, congratulations - and welcome to the Aces High MA, where you have found what you are looking for.

The right to "free expression" only allows you an opinion. However, you can certainly exercise that right in an unwise manner. If you dislike the way people play this game that much, why subject yourself to further misery? Remember, it is a game. Sure, it is often frustrating. Nonetheless, it's better to log off rather than get seriously ticked-off.

Speaking of rights, each player has the right to play the game as he sees fit and need not explain themselves to anyone. Frankly, I think you are the cause of your own aggravation. How? Because you expect people to care about what you perceive as important. You set yourself up for disappointment. The greater your expectations, the greater your disappointment. Hope for the best, expect the worst and you'll be much less frustrated.

I suggest that you join a squad that participates in the weekend TODs and/or spends time in the CT. This should quench your desire for historical gaming. I do understand your point, I prefer historical myself. But, if you fly in the MA, you cannot expect everyone to agree with that view. I suggest you learn to accept the good with the bad and make the most of it.

My regards,

Widewing

Not really, the original intent of the poster was asking to see what diversity was out there and why.

Exactly... I myself do not fly spittys, D model ponys, niki's that I see and kill so much of. Sure there is a little bit of ego attached to posting how many kills you have so far in each but my original intent was to see what most vetern pilots out here are flyin.

poopster, swager & widewing - thanks for your considered opinions :)

I'm not the Historical Realist you might think I am. In WB, I never flew the S3s at all. My best ToD was flying the F6F almost exclusively, but flying it in jabo or attack sorties. I got 428 kills against 175 deaths that tour, but now here's the twist: All the kills were pretty much incidental, and made in the execution of capturing territory. I rarely sought air to air combat, except in defensive sorties. In short, I was flying with a purpose - field captures. My squad at that time was a jabo squad called IAF Borg, led by one of the trainers - a guy called =varg=. Sure, I started out in 1998 with air to air combat, but kind of grew out of it.

In a defensive role, I would fight tooth and nail to prevent one of my country's fields being lost. In short, my loyalties lay with my country, and not the scoreboard.
