Battle Ground a channel 4 documentary...
« on: June 24, 2002, 03:11:10 PM »
watching this progam(in the UK) gave me a great desire to see the Tiger tank in AH!

Some of the most startling facts, both spoken by veterans being interveiwed were :

one tiger was hit 230!!(count em!) times by 76mm from t34s and although it had track damage, wheel damage and transmission damage it still managed another 40 kilometres over rough ground.

A russian gunner also said that the tiger could engage up to 1 kilometre whereas they could only use their 76mm up to 500 metres. He said 'as you can imagine this made things very difficult' with a sad smile that said it all.

a british tank commander with severe facial wounds said that their tanks could only fire at 200 metres with any real chance of hurting a tiger. He even spoke of a time when he fired from 200 yards and saw the shell bounce off.Wittman the German tank ace killed 2 of his crew when he destroyed his tank. After firing twice from 100 yards and watching the shells bounce off he watched as tiger fired once and he was literally blown right out of the top of his turret.the initail attack by Wittman claiming 13! sherman tanks before he was re-enforced by another 8 tigers. The tigers then proceeded to destroy 47 allied vehicles losing 4 tigers.Thats more than 10 to 1 killing ratio in a single engagement!.Can you imagine that fight?? It all took place around a French town and the film of the aftermath looked like an unbelievably intense fight with burned out tanks from either side burning just yards apart in the street with collapsed buildings and burning hulks everywhere.
It sure didnt look like anywhere you'd want to find yourself, a hell on earth surley?

Seems a bit bad but to even think of a game but must admit I am looking forward to seeing the t34, sherman, churchill tanks etc in AH, but i just hope when the tiger is modeled ,we see a performance that matches what these people have said that they witnessed. No glass turrets in this one please. They had to face the Tiger for real and if any so called simulators model them any different it makes a real mockery of what they truelly had to do I think. Please dont make a weak tiger HTC :D (if you make one!and i realise the current model isnt working totally how you want it to and youre no doubt checking it out :) )
It will obviously have to be a high perk cost but it looks to be a superb fighting vehicle.great for base attacks and hard to knock out. land war capture will be a LOT more popular :)

goo onn give us the Tiger I! ;)

Saw that on the History Channel in the states.  Learned that the Tiger had a Porche engine, semi automatic transmission and power steering w/ steering wheel that could be turned with 1 finger.  It was also a rush design to counter the T-34.

Yeah, remember that the Tiger had very weak belly armor. Most experienced allied fighter pilots would shoot in front of the tanks so the bullets would bounce on the road (it would only work on hard surface roads) and hit the tank in the weak belly.

There are numeours examples of P-47s destroying German tanks by shooting infront of the tanks, bouncing the powerful .50 cals on the road and penetrating the bottom armor.

If we get the Tiger, I think HTC should model this somehow.

saw the same show, you left out the part where after a air attack the tiger commander came out of his tank and said the tiger next to his was "split in two like a mellon" and that battle where the tigers "only lost 4 tanks to 47 allied vehicles' the germans lost that fight and had to retreat

I of course was making a sarcastic remark I forgot to put the smileys so  people would know what I was reffering to and some of the idiotic comments told in a thread a while back. :D

So there you go bring the perk Tiger to AH with anti 50 cal  reactive  armo,it's so  elite!
