prop drag 1.03?: what will it bring with it?

rumor is prop drag for 1.03

what will this mean?

when trying to understand prop drag I get the picture of my airplane in a climb at the default climb speed and picture it at its maximum angle of attack in a climb.
the maximum angle of attack is not as efficient correct? same principle for propeller efficiency?

will this make different rpms (blade angle of attack) in different areas of flight more effective than others? if so how?


how much drag will be created by the prop?
how will it change with rpm?
how will this affect performance?

will we have a key which enables prop feathering? on damaged engines?

Heh maybe RAM will stop claiming that "glider amnndings are standard landings"

I anticipate more realistic landing approaches along with a little welcomed drag when I saddle up over Rook and Knit nme...I dont know how you fly, but in my 51 I rarely see any speeds below 275 mph and when diving, some drag will be welcomed

If controlled by manual or auto, not an issue with me....just want it

LOL!!!!

Santa sorry but if I glide to a field it usually is with a 5% fuel reserve in the plane...and the engine stopped (so the prop feathered)

that way I can make correction in the landing and I wont have too much drag from the prop

I now often attack with my motor off in dive. I use it for break turn in the middle of fights. Whatever prop drag is we need it here fast!

Remember to cut your RPM to the lowest setting in a dive or approach.  This will reduce thrust beyond what the reduction you can achieve with throttle alone.

But only on birds that could be feathered (F4U couldna feather, so it windmilled with the engine dead right? not sure I'm remembering correctly   )

Here's hoping we get it, but it'll prolly need a tweak or two

The most efficient angle of attack is that which gives the best Lift/Drag ratio.  For a propeller, this is also ideal (at all times) since any drag creates torque, reducing power available.  A constant speed propeller automatically adjusts pitch to maintain a contant angle of attack on the propeller blades.  There is a limit, however.  You would notice more drag when rpm is low and forward speed is high.

When they model prop drag will the prop then be able to over-rev the engine?

Will those who don't monitor/adjust pitch as required be subjected to blown engines?
