Lookin' for feedback
« on: September 21, 2001, 01:50:00 PM »
Hope everyone is doin' okay, first off.

Secondly, I'm afraid that WB's isn't really doing it for me anymore, and I'm exploring my options.

I quit Aces High a looooong time ago (don't remember the version, but it was the first, if not second version that had the clouds included).

I was just wondering how far Aces High has come since then.

Has the Flight Model been changed at all?

How do the .50's work? (MAJOR pet peeve over in brand W)

I see y'all have Jugs- how are they?(you guessed it, #2 frustration in brand W)

Lookin' forward to flyin' with you folks, and hearin' some honest feedback from y'all.

Thanks in advance,
-Rebel

Hum, I've no experience with Warbirds, but hopefully I can help.

1.  Yes, the FM was changed (a looooong time ago), apparently the old FM favored BnZ planes at the expense of turning planes because all planes bled E like stuck pigs in turns.

2.  .50s work like, well, .50s.  They don't hit as hard as cannon, but I find them easier to aim and hit with.  They aren't as lethal as a cannon in snapshots, but you can kill a plane fairly easily with them.

3.  P47s are slower than P51s, but they turn better.  I like them because they are big and fat and have 8 .50s, but I hate them because they are big and fat and they wallow around the sky when you get slow in them.  We have some really awesome sticks here that fly the P47s (the 56th), and we also have some not so awesome people that fly them occasionally (me).  Give it a try, there is a two week free trial period, and they just dropped the cost to $15 a month, which is half what they were charging.

We don't have the .50 cal laser cannons, we've got Holy Hispano Turbo-charged Plasma guns! The flight model will let you spin, flip-flop, and do most everything a real aircraft can do. No Mushbirds here. The Jug takes a bit of getting used to (all that weight) but it's fun to fly. A couple of vehicles add in a nice change of pace if you get tired of being shot down. Same goes for the manned ack guns on fields and ships. My advice, try it out offline before you raid H2H for a few go-rounds. Your trial doesn't start until you log into the actual arenas, so take your time in H2H to get the feel for it. When you're ready, hit the MA and see what you think!

PS: You asked for opinions; everyone here will give you their's.

Hi Rebel!

"Has the Flight Model been changed at all?"

Yes, it has been changed a lot.  There was a big change in lift and drag curves, plus many changes in transonic drag, buffeting, etc.  It is fairly similar to the WB flight model (they are both pretty good) with the exception that in AH there is less control lag, climb and speed curves more closely match historical curves,  and there are more "details" modeled.

"How do the .50's work? (MAJOR pet peeve over in brand W)"

They are quite effective, enough that the LW complains about them.   You have got to see the "wall of lead" that the Jug puts out with every bullet being modeled.  Try some strafing to see how big the pattern is.     :)

"I see y'all have Jugs- how are they?"

They fly like Jugs oughta fly.  Again, they are good enough that there has been some complaining.      :)

Other notes:
The default sounds are still weak.  Get one of the sound packs that you can read about in the sound forum on this BBS.
And if you have a newer computer, try the DX8 beta which also has its own forum.
The controller setup is very flexible but it can be complex.  Send me a private message if you need any help with it.

Rebel! Good to 'see' you.

The P-47 is still pretty nice (even after the 1.4 fm change  :). The 56th guys fly as thier steady ride. They'll chime in I'm sure. They're a farc__, er force to be reckoned with to say the least  :)

I remember flyin with ya Rebel, and as I recal that was when the AH Jugs first came out. So yes, the FM has changed alot since then. Everything turns better now, but relative abilities havent changed much.

The guns are brutal. 8 .50s will shred any plane very fast. I'd say 1 second of fire will do most any fighter if its a well aimed burst.

Jugs have a tough time of it these days, mainly because there's so many P-51s, 109G-10s, 190D-9s, and La-7s around. Guys like the 56th FG still kick butt in em tho. It can fight at 30k and higher, where most planes can barely fly level.

One thing I really like is its versatility. I think its got more gun, ordinance, and drop tank options than any other plane in the game. And there's 3 versions to choose from, 2 bubbletops and a razorback.

Rebel!  How do?

Just join up again and fly!!

I don't much care about or measure an aircraft's FM.  I just fly.  Enjoy flying with JG2 again!  That's where my fun is. I don't care if a particular A/C's FM is 'porked'. Hell I'm porked and I don't much care about that!   :)

When ya do fly again, fly for Knights and look me up!!  <S>

<S> Rebel!

I think you'll find the Jug behaves pretty much like a Jug should here.  Be sure to check out the authentic windshield and off center gunsite in the Razorback D-11.  Also, be sure to download the ultimate sound pack off HTC's main web site.  The '47 start and runup is one of my favorite sounds anywhere.

We *all* are going to have a lot of "options" to explore very soon.

1.08 is gonna be released very shortly (way too many many things to list - it will be HTC's largest release yet)... so you've picked a good time to come and check out AH again.

<S> See ya up!
