Calibration Factors for B-17
« on: July 04, 2002, 04:38:01 AM »
Calibration is easy.  I hit a bullseye the first time out.
Here's how in a B-17.

The two most important things to remember is to

1) be in level flight and at same speed you will release at when you calibrate...and maintain those values when you drop.  I calibrated when I was some distance out (pulled site most of the way up to view target ahead of me in the distance) and stayed on course until release.

2) make sure your bomb bay doors are open when you calibrate to insure the drag effect will be factored into the calculations

3) (and I bet this is where some people err) Exit the calibration routine once you set it by hitting 'U' again.  Then do the regular F6-Lookdown to see your standard bombsite reticle.  This is where you drop from; not the view through the calibration site.

It worked like a charm for me.  I hope you have similar success.
