whadaya mean 'i can't find a fight'?
« on: July 05, 2002, 08:19:43 PM »
i have been finding big fights whenever i've wanted to for 2 days.

ya gotta zoom in close, (not THAT close), use the cursor to move the map around. best fights are between island and main land bases, usually there is a CV involved.

a huge knight/rook fight between a95 and a87 today, with a rook CV thrown in for fun. it had it all. b-17 boxes, a20s, sbds, big 'ol honking furballs.

it was beautiful, man! :D

Good for you.

I'm having a MISERABLE time trying to find decent battles.  Just logged off in complete disgust.  Again.   30 friendlies vulching some barely-defended base doesn't = a good fight IMO.

I'm always willing to give a new map time.  For now though I'm not enjoying myself at all.  Unlike some people, I don't have endless amounts of time to play, and when I do I need to be able to find a fight fast--not fly around for 30 minutes gawking at the scenery.

I hope things improve.

Your not looking hard enough, either that or your flying during non-peak hours.

I always love the attitude of "since I don't think it's a problem then you must be wrong"

I'm glad you're enjoying yourself.   I'm not.  I'm perfectly willing to wait awhile for things to maybe improve.

i know you can't see toejam zoomed out.

zoom in, and drag the map around with the cursor. look along the fronts. the battles are there, JAB, trust me....

not much going on in the himalaya mountains, except armor fights. the action is along the coasts especially the interior 'river'.

i found the width of the river deciving. looks too small for naval ops. but there is plenty of room to manuver.

i've furballing, jaboing and and base defending all day. the fight at a95/a87 went on for hours.

Tumor, you know me. We've flown together for a long time.

I don't come here and just gripe too gripe, you know that.

I've flown peak and off peak since 1.10 came out and its a real pain in the rear to find decent fights.

I saw one good fight that was between 88 and 81 for about an hour maybe, and hour and a half during prime time tonight, until someone decided to pork the bases people were fighting from.  And then it just evaporated away.

People get killed in an area and they just go somewhere else that there is no enemy.  And if one team builds up an offensive, the other side doesn't defend at all, they just go elsewhere and try to landgrab around the flanks.  And don't tell me to defend the flanks because there are not enough players to cover everywhere on 6 different fronts. Because once you go after them and spend time grabbing alt, they just evaporate and go where your not.

I like the map personally, but its not living up to its potential, due to the very low population density and the way the player base is playing it.  All sides, not just any one team.

Maybe it's just wierd timing, but...  I haven't had any problems.  I log on and spend a minute or two draging the map around looking for dar-bars that are fairly large and closely matched.  Usually find something. Mind you I don't care where or what alt the nearest base is, I just get airborne in a ride suited to the location and what I want to do.

More attention may be needed to bring really good "big" fights.  If you make a mission and get enough people in it to swell a dar bar.. there will be a reaction.  Folks will always be drawn to a crowd.  True as that is.. still allota folks want to lone wolfe and gnash thier teeth at the prospect of teaming up...   dunno how to answer to that without pissing in someones wheaties.  Guess it's gonna take some time but I think "things" will be fine given time.

And by the way... I have no idea who you are and you gripe WAY to much :D

It's easy!..Just zoom map all the way out and look for the twinkling bases.Especially the vehicle bases, you can plunk right into panzer hell in a second. Also look for the 11k/12k airfields. You can bet there's at least a couple of people launching buffs if that's your preferred dish.

Or create you own hornet's nest by sneaking an lvt near a town and having a squadie jabo it for your capture. Then taunt the other side after you capture it.Guaranteed lots of enemy planes will be on your way soon for your furballing fixation.

To find a furball/fight:

zoom map out completely (so you can see whole map), shut down all field icons, alt icon , etc. You'll be looking at a bare map with only sector bars. Now pic an 'high activety area' by zooming in and scrolling to it (with shift and mouse), turn on field icons and select the field you want to take of from.

I agree it is a bit more work to find the area you're looking for, but what ya expect with a 512X512 big map.

You can still find ya furballs guys, especially around a CV that comes near an enemy field.

85-97 was a great fight.   I believe it is the only fight on the map tho worth mentioning.   Good thing was... the fluffs couldn't ruin it.  saw 5 or six attempts while I was there.

You have hit the nail on the head. During evenings Australian time there is between 70 and 100 players online. This map is too big for that number. In fact, mindanao, ndisles and the baltic maps were too big for that number. The best map for people in this time zone has been lake uterus, because of the way it compresses the action. Each side only has 2 small fronts on that map, so it is always easy to find a good fight.

This weekend I have played during the day and hit peak time, and with a full server the action on the new map is great. I am not sure if I will bother flying during the week anymore though.

I've had some great fights on the new map if you look hard enough and take time to think where to best pounce on the enemy you can be in for a fun time. Also given the map size your less likely to have the fight ruined by others showing up in force.

I've always prefered patroling and finding the odd con and surviving rather then the diving head on into big furballs, shoot as many oppoinents down as possible and die technique.

I guess previous maps you could up from anywhere and be sure to make contact, now you have to take time to think about it.

Being from New Zealand I do agree with Aussie cousins that in evenings our time it is very difficult to find some action outside the usual small furballs.

how many times did I say that a larger map was not the answer to the problems we were having?
