autotakeoff is just as good as useless when the CV is in a turn , not even a moderate turn but a real smooth one, the auto take off will just make you role overboard , very anoying.:mad: :mad:

So learn how to take off from a turning CV.  Try a F4U-1D, 100gas, Rockets and 2 1000lbs bombs.  It can be done :)  And then you'll have NO problems with anything else... cept maybe the B-25..... when we get it :)

Oh ya, and back up before you take off, really helps.

yes i do know that its disabled, but i use auto take off to get every inch of speed i can get on the CV Since heavy planes go submarine

Soup (4510) and I were landing and taking off the CV last night.  He was in a goon I was in a 110G2.  Did you know you can rearm a ground based plane on a CV?  pretty intersting,  Soup had it down so that he would not roll past the wires on touch down, could rearm and take off again without backing up.

Can I just say one thing.

Why are you even using auto-takeoff?

And yes.....I would think taking off from a turning carrier is hard.  Nobody in real life does it, so why is it surprising you that you that an autopilot can't do it in this game.

We want realism, correct?

In short, no we don't need to change auto-takeoff.  There isn't anything wrong with it.

its not hard to takeoff a turning cv without autotakeoff...

use the roll back trick to get a longer run for takeoff if you find you are hitting the sea

a B17 with 50% fuel can rearm on a cv and takeoff again

Omega,
Turn off autoclimb and try a couple "normal" takeoffs.

1. use 1-2 clicks flaps, I never had to use more then 1 on any plane.
2. start engine with throttle to 0
3. go full throttle and use WEP.
4. use rudder to compinsate for cv turning
5. pull back "slightly" on stick when end of cv crossed. use small corrections here, you will encounter the stall warning, don't overcompensate.
6. gear up
7. after a little speed is gained, flaps up
8. gain speed and climbout, avoiding the destroyers and battleship as necessary :D

Ok I'll bite,  whats the rollback trick? being a rl pilot I know the runway behind you is all wasted but only way I know to reclaim it is to turnaround and taxi to it. Is there a trick?

When you spawn on the Cv deck, you are actually half way up it allready, ie. there is a lot of 'unused' deck behind you.
The trick is to ease on enough throttle to release your brakes, but not enough to actually pull the aircraft forwards.
If you can do this, the movement of the ship basically pulls it out from under you....making you roll toward the stern, and giving you an extra 50~60 feet of deck to use in your takeoff roll.
Might not sound like much, but with an F4U-1D, 100%, 2x1k + Roks, 50~60 ft is the differance between staggering in to the air and a watery grave.

So, just fiddle around offline or something untill you find that 'sweet spot' on the throttle that will allow you to do this....it IS a fairly small fraction of your throttle's throw, so it may take quite a bit of fiddling about to find. ( it seems to be about 4% or 5% throttle on mine..ie not much)
Hope that helps.

PS...lose the auto take off ASAP, learning how your aircraft handles at takeoff speed ( low and real slow) can be a very handy thing to know when the proverbial smelly stuff hits the spinny thing.
