MSI Nforce-PCI Modem won't install
« on: July 06, 2002, 01:56:19 AM »
I just finished putting together my first build (rig 1). It is working great and very stable. M3D 2001 bench is over 10,500 and no reboots or BSOD. My only problem is the PCI slots. I am using ob sound and LAN and both work great. My only PCI device is a US Robotics 3CP2976-OEM modem. It works fine in Rig 2 but will not install in Rig 1. I get "PCI Serial Port nt configured [Code 1]". I also tried the drivers from USR for this card. When I click on setup it says "Must be NT 4.0 or later". On Rig 2 it installed itself under XP drivers. I tried another USR card and got "PCI simple Communicatios Controller failed to install" and it won't install with the supplied drivers either. Since it works in my other Nforce rig under XP I am sure I must have set something wrong. Oh, when I run Live Update 2 it says I have the current MB drivers (2.29)

Thanks for any help offered

Sounds like the Asus board needs a BIOS flash.  See if they have an updated BIOS.  Also you may wish to check to see if the XP load on the Asus mobo was done with APIC enabled.  If not I would suggest starting over with APIC enabled.

Jeff,
Thanks for the reply, but it is rig 1 with the problem.  Both boards actually came with the latest BIOS versions available that aren't BETA.  I insstalled XP on both with APIC enabled. It is actually a PCI problem instead of a modem problem.  I am starting to suspect a defective mobo.
Thanks agin,

If anyone cares, I fixed my problem by reformatting and reinstalling XP.
