1.10 unplayable for anyone else? (pings, etc.)
« on: July 07, 2002, 10:30:03 PM »
I allowed a few days to go by before I actually flew in MA (actually didn't have time to fly, so it was convenient) figuring my dual dialup connection couldn't compete with the massive numbers downloading the new version.  Every time I did at least log on to check pings, they have been at least double, often triple what they were before 1.10.  I flew in MA for first time tonight, and the game is totally unplayable.  I used to average 45-60 fps, with only occasional connection related hiccups.  Tonight, fps was still hovering at an acceptable 25-30, but actual performance did not match.  It felt like the screen was only updating once every second or so.  Back at login screen, pings were averaging around 800.  Is this common?  Is this what I am stuck with?  I have NO access to cable or DSL, as I live in a rural area, and can't afford the 600 bucks or so to get two way satellite.  Am I just a casualty of growth?  I certainly hope not, as it would be like being taken off of heroin cold turkey, yet I can not justify paying anything for a game I can no longer play.  Anyone having similar problems?  I apologize ahead if anyone feels this should be in a different forum, but go whine about it somewhere else.  This is a question whose answer could be helpful to many, and not just those who wander further than General Discussion board.  Thanks for any input (constructive).

For me its completly unplayable.
And so is Warcraft III

What does it have to do?
AT&T issue.

Using PingPlotter, AT&T is always lagged to hell lately.

Welcome to summer time on the Internet.  Happens every year, without fail and will get better once school starts again here in the U.S.
Actually, every year it gets worse and has done so for the last 7 years.  more and more broadband clients added with fewer and fewer ISP's that have a clue on how to prevent the abuse and you have a true mess on your hands.

My AT&T connection is rock solid, with excellent ping.

Could it be something else?
