I believe that I am not alone in experiencing a degree of
culture shock with the new Aces High map, AK-Desert. Whatever it lacks in realism is surely compensated by entertainment value. I have particularly enjoyed the ground battles, and operation of the Panzer, M3 and field guns. Many of the vehicle bases are of course on the outer edge of the pizza crust, away from the main area of green and red pepper toppings. Being separated from the mainland by a stretch of water, the outer vehicle bases are of negligible strategic importance, and so these ground battles have been capable of being fought with minimal interference from the air.
I would like to salute the Rooks tonight, for their tenacity in attempting the capture of V182 at the east of the map. It was an interesting battle, and for the first 20 or so minutes I fought alone to defend it. The field gun is a formidable weapon, and once it had been destroyed, I decided the best ploy would be to deploy a Panzer and to fire smoke canisters in order to obscure the enemy’s view of their target. This worked for long enough, and by the time the smoke was clearing, assistance had arrived. I gave the rooks assurances that they would NOT be taking the field as long I was able to maintain control of the situation, but had to leave shortly afterwards
I have a question about Vehicle Field guns: I appreciate that the gun can be destroyed by the enemy, following which attempts to man the gun elicit the response “That gun has been destroyed”. Why then do I often get a different message when trying to man the gun, which is “Invalid ship position”?
I had a pizza for lunch today. It had red and green peppers, and the cheese topping was remarkably similar in colour to the desert sand in the AH terrain
