New System Weirdness
« on: July 07, 2002, 02:20:18 PM »
I built a new system recently...here are the specs:

Win 98...not SE
USB mouse
2gig P4 Northwood
ASUS P4T-E MB
512 mgs RAMBUS Ram
SB Live X-Games 5.1 sound card
gForce3 Ti200 vid w/ latest Dets.
External serial modem
All CH analog controlers using gameport
Separate AH partition on a Maxtor 7200 rpm drive using ATA100
Windows handles swap file
The problem I have is after a few minutes of flying my frame rates start in the low 70's but will grind down to 2fps for 5 seconds or so then they pop back up to the 70's...this repeats about 5 times an hour but at random times. Proximity to terrain details or large furballs don't trigger the freeze but will happen in those situations at times...again randomly.

ANY help will be appreciated.

A wierd question, MrLars, but do you have Microsoft Office installed on that system? What you are describing sounds a lot like the FindFast daemon -- installed by default when you install MS Office -- kicking off to search and reindex the documents on your system.
