Dumb question about icon range!

I'm almost certain that the "distance neon" that we see when closing on a con (or when a con is closing in on us) is given in YARDS, and not feet. Below 1000, the number changes to yards whereas above 1000 yards, the counter is in thousands of yards, rounded to the nearest 100, ie. 1.4 = 1400 yards approx.  

I just wonder because there is some speculation that this value might be in feet, but all the discussion I ever see refers to this value in Yards.

Can someone please confirm?

PS. I couldn't find the answer in the AH Help application.

That is correct.  All icon distances are in yards.  Where people often get confused, however, is when comparing with their altitude which is given in feet!  Someone flying at a 1000 feet, may see an aircraft or vehicle on the ground with an icon distance of 333, which of course is 333 yards = 333x3 feet = 999 feet.

Yes this creates more confusion when someone cries about being hit by an ostwind which is 3500 ft below them... which is less than 1200 yrds +)

3500 yrds is over 10,000ft
