Actually, I set mine up so I can take the keyboard out and lay it on my lap for typing, etc. However, I've found typing in this position is quite comfortable. Notice, I havr a palm rest underneath my keyboard, and it is slightly angled, so it's not completely vertical.

I managed to "Borrow" a keyboard holder from my office, but it's mounting under the monitor was too cumbersome, and really ate into my leg rooms.

So, in answering your question, I would not Perma-mount the keyboard as show, but I've have no problems doing E-bay, etc so far.

LOL! Actually, even after being in our new house for four months there's still stuff stacked in the corners that we haven't put away.  My mother-in-law made that quilt for my daughters many years ago.  As this is in the basement, my wife doesn't get to worked up about the clutter.  She especially doesn't give me any grief about the Mark I, though she enjoys telling other people about my obsessive behavior.  Of course, she has an entire room dedicated to sewing (11 ft x 17 ft, not counting the 11x4 walk-in closet).  On top of that, she has a queen-size quilt on a wooden rack taking up the entire dining room, where she and her quilting buddies work on it.  So she can't really give me too hard a time about it.

In answer to the keyboard ergonomic question I, like Muckmaw, pull the keyboard into my lap when doing any serious typing.  The AH voice program has cut down considerably on the amount of typing I do while flying, so it's not a big consideration.  The KB is resting on a 1.5 inch deep shelf, just as the phone keypad is; neither are permentantly attached to the "instrument panel."  These two wooden ledges are the only things attached with screws; everything else is tabs and slots.

Yes, before you can build this seat, you must get permission from Thrustmaster, Inc. :D

This is my only working Computer, so the family has to get used to it. It is MY computer after all. They're just squatters!

Anyway, the seat is very comfortable, inclined at a lovely 30 degrees. Mines made from plywood, Foam Rubber, and a leather-wannabe seat cover.

Please note, if you live in a warmer climate, leather seat covers cause cranky-ass after severa;l hours of play. But it cleans more easily than a fabric cover, where you cheeks will leave prints for hours.

Think about that.....:)

For the price of the Cougar, they ought to throw in the seat!  When I read about how heavy the Cougar is, I know my old broken down office chair (which had joystick mounts grafted on) would never do.  So when my Cougar was put on order, I was determined to provide it with home befitting it's royal heritage.  And yes, this is the one from the following website:

http://www.62ndfightingfalcons.asn.au/62ndff/projects/projects.htm

My seatback is adjustable to various angles using a single wing-nut, just visible in the pics, placed through the "horisontal stabilizer."  This was my own modification from the original design.  The seat is foam rubber (4-inch thick for seat bottom, 2-inch thick for seat back) covered in a green suede-like material, which is quite comfortable while flying "in the buff.";)

This is my only PC at the moment.  The kids have adapted just fine to this new "office furniture" (my description of what I was up to when my wife asked "What's all this wood for?").  A clever bit of subtrafuge to hide my true intent until it was too late.  Muahahahahaha...  Sorry...don't know where that came from.:D
