Also, from my old system, a Creative Live Value

Im getting these black flickers on the left side of my screen while running AH.

you try older Det drivers to see if it is the vid driver as the issue?

if it still flickers with older Det drivers, i'm wondering if it is a prob with other conflicts such as sound or MB drivers...etc etc.

try changing settings in your display properties etc?

try any other games, or just AH with the flickers?

not much help i can offer, but i'd start with those.

Might wanna check ViaArena about that.  Recall reading about something similar but do not recall how it was remedied

Since I've rebuilt my system on the MSI KT3 Ultra motherboard, I've had no problems with my GeForce 4 4600.  Im kinda curious why I cant go beyond 75fps, but 75 is great in smoke, etc!

It may be topping at the max frequency of your monitor i.e. 75 Hrz

LePaul,
Mine did same thing under XP Pro till I went to DXDiag/More Help/
Override and entered 85.  Now it usually runs at my monitor refresh rate of 85.

LePaul,

You are maxing at those frame rates because you have vertical sync turned on.  Vertical synchronization syncs your refresh rates to the monitor's electron gun vertical scanning speed (in your case 75Hz).  The electron guns in a monitor scan in a raster, line-by-line from the top left to right and down the screen.  Once it reaches the bottom, it jumps back up to the top left and starts over.  Vertical sync synchronizes your frame rate to that scan speed.  75Hz means your monitor draws a new screen 75 times per second.

If you turn vert sync off, your frame rates will go to the max your video card can push.  The downside to that is your video will not be quite as smooth and under high rates of turn or roll, you may see some slight jitter.  Turning vsync off does nothing except provide bragging rights as to how high your frame rates can get...and with a gf4 ti4600, it can get pretty darn high (I often see 280+ fps with mine).  Although this does nothing for game performance, it is a very general indication of the power of your video card and can give you an idea of how much strain it will handle without losing too many frames per second.

On the plus side, there really is no advantage to having the vert sync off.  Any frame rate over 30 is a waste.  What you need to be concerned with is how low your frame rates get when the graphics get really heavy (that's where you are really straining the video card).  Locking refresh rate to scan rate with vsync on limits ONLY the high frame rates.  Your video card will perform the same when the graphics are very heavy.  Again, as long as you see at least 30 fps, you are good to go.

Where do you change that, Warp?  I'm somewhat curious to see what my XP1900/GeForce4 Ti 4600 can spit out.

Bragging rights and all that  :)

AKWarp,
If you read my post above, you will see that I was limited to 75fps with vsync on and monitor refresh rate of 85. After the above fix , I usually get  85 fps with vsync on.

I'd start looking at the card manufacturer...

maybe a bad card...

does the card test ok in dxdiag?

Moose, does that MB have the VIA chipset? If it does, make sure you have the latest VIA 4-in-One drivers.

That setting will only change Vsynch for Open GL games.  Aces High is a Direct X game, so changing the option you suggest will have no effect on AH.  Look for a similar option under Direct X to disable Vsynch for AH play.

Note:  I only recommend you do this for benchmarking.  I find disabling Vsynch almost imperceptably makes gunnery more difficult for me.  YMMV, but for playing I'd always leave Vsynch ON provided my video card could push a solid 50 or 60 fps... or better yet hold it at max refresh rate. :)

I knew AH isn't Open  GL but the vsync option definitely doesn't appear anywhere else in my Display Properties.  I am using Leadtek's version of 28.32 drivers for my GF 4400.  I actually don't remember seeing it anywhere else in other Nvidia reference drivers either.  Not important to me anyway because I want it on and mine must be on since it won't go past 85 fps in AH.  If you know where to find it, I would be curious to know where. Without changing anything I see over 240 fps in parts of 3D bench.

Thanks,
