Cured my CTD's
« on: July 19, 2002, 02:30:55 AM »
Well... I bit the bullet and fired up my dual 28.8 modems and downloaded the full install of AH to do a clean re-install.  Talk about working miracles!  Yesterday, it had become so bad I couldn't get past the sign in screen without crashing.  Tonight, not one CTD, and even a few frames higher on the frame rate.  If you do download and reinstall, be sure to save out your terrains, maps, sounds, sights folders, and any .cfg files you don't want to have to re-download or reconfigure, then copy them back into the newly installed AH folders.  I guess it was worth the over 2 hours (for me) download!  Hope this helps some of the unfortunate others having similar problems.  I assume it is sort of like owning an old, comfortable jacket.  You can only patch it so many times before it falls apart and you simply have to replace it with a new one.  :)

Someone suggested I do that but haven't. Since you had a good experience, think I'll do the same.

I did just that when 1.10 came out, mainly since I had dozens of patches in there from years ago. I don't wanna burt your bubble here but I've had more CTDs in 1.10 and 1.10.1 during July that i've had in the last two years. Go ahead and try it, it sure wont hurt.

Just downloaded and installed the complete AH file, but after 10 mins of playing I have already had 2 CTD's.

Having played AH since beta....  I've had more CTD's since 1.10 came out than ever before.   I don't think I get the CTD's as bad as some people but I do get them and I very very rarely ever had them in the past (maybe 1 ctd a month).

Give it some time I'm sure the CTD's will get fixed.

I did the same, I downloaded and installed the full AH just to see if it was the sounds causing it, same result as before.

I also knew about the delete and reinstall idea. It seemed that just about every nre version release I started getting random CTD's. Never as bad as after 1.10 though. I did this again and no change. I still have them and it makes the game unplayable. :(

PS I have the stock sounds as well.

In the past year I can count the CTD on one hand...in the past 2 weeks, Id need at least 10 hands.  Ive been averaging 1-2 every hour since 1.10, the real annoying part is there doesnt seem to be any way to predict them.  Some nights I fly 3-4 hours CTD free, others I CTD within 5 minutes of logging on.  Reboots, reinstalls, re-drivers, different resolutions, different sound settings, nothing has made a difference.  Figure there is an evil piece of code somewhere

It got so bad I did a clear out and reinstalled win2000, Updated all my hardware firmware and removed a couple of cards that I have moved to another system..... Cured 90% of the CTD's but still getting screen/keyboard lockups at random times, seems less though.  This just means the ones I get are 5 times more annoying though  :D

All,

I started ANOTHER CTD bug report. Please add your posts to it so that HTC gets the idea. They may not follow the thread here but they doo look at the bug reports. Please list your system specs like I did there. Lets get some attention focused on this freaking problem. Map whines are one thing but this makes the program and subscription useless.

Thanks

Well, I did the reinstall and used the stock sounds versus Mitsus' sound pack. Flew about 2 hours lastnight. No CTD or lockup. So far so good.

Going to try this a while, then add Mitsus sounds back in as they really enhance the game for me.
