Thanks Flossy :)

Allies have won the TOD. Malta resulted a strong target.

Nice pic, clouds.... you are obviously pleased at the result...    So, how does the terrain compare with the real thing in Sicily?  ;)

Unfortunately for me, I was in the AXIS side  (unfortunately because we have lost the TOD ;) ), anyway Flossy the terrain it seems to me it is only a pure fantasy elaboration compared to the real one. I'm sorry for my presumption but my real home is about 10 miles South of P82 :)

Maybe compared to the desert the terrain could have some possibility but not with the real one, I'm sorry :)

No roads, no fenced tesselations, no small lakes (sicily is filled with it because of agricolture even if the water distribution is a real problem) obviously the lakes are not simply to see on the ground but easy from the air.

The ETNA Mountain (the vulcan) is over 9k ft high, have snow at top even in spring and autumn and in winter sometimes it begins below 4k ft, and sometimes its MAGMA eruptations are seen from MALTA too.

When it is sleeping a constant smoke colum over it is seen from the shuttle too.

At final, the real sicily is much more complicated than the terrain used in this TOD and maybe since 1940 to 1945 (WWII) probably sicily was not so complicated like today it is but i think anyway not so simplifyed like this terrain.

However, I appreciate the effort in trying to represent the real.
;)

I know it is impossible to be 100% realistic maintaining the software so light.

WTG anyway.

LOL, I can't claim any credit for the creation of the terrain, but I can appreciate how much work goes into them having started trying to learn terrain-building myself.  Obviously, it is impossible to be as detailed as the real thing, but I was just curious how it compared when I saw you lived in Sicily....  ;)

Clouds,
I would love to add everything you describe to the Sicily terrain, however, AH is very limited in that regard. It's primary focus is as an WW2 Aerial Combat simulator, not a super detailed terrain generator. I am sure HTC wouldn't mind making the terrain model that detailed, if they could do it and achieve high frame rates on most of the systems people use. However, I think it will be 10 years before you see that sort of detail in terrains for MMPOL sims due to connection and PC limitations of the average user.

In AH, we have a limited number of tiles to use for terrains. For example, I could add snow to the top of Etna, but then I couldn't add the Magma flows. I also considered making Etna smoke, but many people have trouble with frame rates when there are alot of clouds and especially if we use the storm cloud layer, so I specifically avoided that.

Also as for fences, etc, there is a limited number of objects you can have on a terrain and fences aren't modeled, although the sides of a VH hanger could be used for large fences, but we simply don't have that level of detail available. Also, the resolution of the terrain is that there is a node every half mile, and although there are many lakes on Malta, we would only be able to use the pre-existing lake object as such and would still need info on where all of the lakes are etc.

Ok Sunndog what you said is true but ......... not all you said, infact while every large portion of a terrain is a copy of the same small elements placed in different positions, it is not if you use a tessellation of large bitmaps (photos) representing the top view of a real world scenery (no need to reprenset roads, houses, poles, cities) all is included in every tile, the only thing to do is.............placing avery tile in the correct position related to the others surrounding it and at last, the elements that comes up from the terrain wich could help the orientation or other (I can't figure it in this moment) ie. the St. Paul cathedral :).

Tell me if I was clear enough plz. ;)

Sorry for another question:
why it is not possible to fill a bomber with 6,7 or 8 different guys each one in a different gun position like in the real ?

LOL, Clouds.... you might be best posting that in the Gameplay forum - or email questions@hitechcreations.com with it, and look out for an answer in the Q&A forum....  :D
