I was doing some surfing, looking for any information regarding blast damage to structures from bombs during WWII, when I ran across a description of the Disney rocket-assisted bomb, and my first reaction was the "...maniacal toon weapons..." line from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" -- a 4,500-lb hard case bomb which was dropped from 20,000'; upon reaching 5,000', a fuse would ignite  a rocket motor, accelerating the bomb to an impact velocity of 2,400 ft/sec to improve penetration against sub pens and other heavily-armored targets.

Interesting, however, 1 for 18 wouldn't do very well in a bomber scoring sortie!

Carried on B-17 bombers in pairs under-wing this weapon was first used on Febuaary 10, 1945. Nine B-17s of the 92nd BG dropped eighteen Disney bombs on U-boat pens at Ijmuden in Holland, scoring one direct hit. The weapon saw further use but suitable targets were often either too far away (such as in Norway) or already over-run by Allied troops. Still by the end of the war a total of 158 Disney Bombs had been used in combat.
