I have not actually used the bombing sights, but I spoke with someone who has.
During the bombing run, the bombadier actaully flew the airplane through the auto-pilot (pilot still controlled throttle). With the Sight, Drift, Groundspeed, Altitude, and Target altitude were all factered in. When the lines matched up, the bombs were droped automatically. This system was only used by the Americans, and when the mission began, the bombadier would Check a sight out from operations, mount it on the Bomber (any of the Boeing series). When they landed, the bombadier would dimount it and take it back to Ops. If they crashed, they were to completly destroy it by any means possible, ussually by emptying a magazine of 9mm bullets into the device, or several hits with a sledge. I'll try and do further research into this, so we can implament it.
Anyway, Americans could drop bombs into an are 500ft wide from over 20,000ft. British and German bombers marked an area around the target and used saturation bombing, and never did Daylight bombings. Most of the work was done by the computer in the sight, so the bombadier had very little to do.
