It's a game... a PC can't run a "true simulator"... it takes 7 (or more) Pentiums (the CPU) to run a "true" full motion Boeing simulator.

You can't get a certification from "Aces High", but it will teach you the basics of flight, such as lift, stall, and angle of attack.  You might even improve your navigation.

I think "Aces High" is a combat simulator that has flight in it.

What's an "arcade"?

If by "arcade" you mean "an amusement center having coin-operated games" (Merriam-Webster) it is most definitely a place of amusement with a $15 Credit Card Fee taking the place of coins.

I suspect that you use "arcade" in a derogatory manner, as if amusing yourself online with simulated WW2 aircraft in simulated combat is some sort of embarassing or less-than-worthy hobby.

In any event, I am not aware of any PC-based, massively-multiplayer Internet programs built around flying that come anywhere close to qualifying as a "flight simulator" in the true sense of those words.

So, like all the other MMOG Air Combat sims, AH is a game. And a GREAT GAME at that.

well its a stupid question..or a bit stupid....

If you want a full fligth sim..we would SPEND A LONG TIme getting off the ground..using trim wheels the whole time...adjsuting mixture....calbrating all your Flight instruments and such....

Liek calling atis or awos and getting the  air pressure over base 223 so your bom run will be set properley...

Wel this game has to make a fine line of mixture of both...When you fly in clouds or in pich dark..I use my attitude indicator..air speed and Climb /decent rate to see how the hell im flying,,so you do use things that would defnlty be used in real life flying....

But yes..I don not thing the FAA would smile when you have in you rlog books..40 hours of Simulated instrument traingin...in AH..lololo

Yep to me its a game and a great one thats alot of fun as well. I wish it were more of a FS Sim though and what I mean is at the level that would make me wanna up in a slow mediocr plane just for a nice and peacfull flight hundreds of miles away from the combat region when Im too tired to fite with all the challenges of simply flying a bird. To me thats the level of realism I would really want in my FS sim. As far as games go, Im not inclined to pull a revolver out and stick it in my head if I loose. I usually just go and have a smoke if something lame happened like net lag or freeze or something or other...

what would happen if this sim were like that is that only 5% of folks could land the planes.

It would be awful

Well I can only speak for myself but if AH were like that

I would spend 50% of my time flying around, looking at the clouds, landscape, little ponds, animals running and grazing, oh and them purple mountians out yonder...

Then the other 50% of the time I would be a sadistic killer spending my CPU time trying to find new ways of killing you faceless guys in your horrible machines.

Oh and the reflection of the sky and clouds on the ponds and lakes, we need that it a real hardcore FS sim.

Both.

In the end its the users who decides for theselves.

For me I like AH at about 70% sim and 30% game.

AH is not a flight sim. It is an air combat sim. Arcade like? It becomes less so with each update. The problem HT has is to balance the flight sim part with the game play part. If he tried to turn this into a bona fide flight sim...90% of his customers would go some where else.
