Im sitting here reading stuff
« on: July 29, 2002, 04:41:42 PM »
Then all of a sudden some web crap window advertising EBAY pops up on my screen. I hate that. I hate it when my computer feels like its been taken over by another party and someone else is in control. I hate it whenever I reboot and my IExplorer comes up in that little window with the search window on the left hand side. I have tried to change this in the registry but it does no good.

Question, anyone have experience with the anti POPUP softwares out there? Do they work well and are there any issues with any of them. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,

While this is not a pop up killer, it's nonetheless a good idea to run once in awhile. You might be suprised about all the watermelon your computer has collected.

Ad-Aware

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

It's free as well, although I paid $15 for the registered version which can stay resident and kill any spyware or bad cookies as it sees them. It's is generally not a problem for me because I'm careful but family members use my computer as well.

Here are some pop up killers

Do a Google search for AtGuard, it kills cookies, ani-gifs, java, and active-x scripts as well as being an excellent firewall.

Pop-up Stopper.
http://www.panicware.com/

Works great and it's free. Keep in mind that it will interfere with Java pop-ups you might want like banking online and the like. You can enable/disable it via a taskbar icon.

Highly recommended.

My browser actually has the option to disable popups without any additional software..

I don't think they make it for windows tho.

maybe you can purchase some additional software to go with your MS Internet Exploder that will work half of the time and crash your OS the rest of the time =)

Little news about Gator.

"Gator is confirmed spyware, according to Tribune Media Services (via SecurityNewPortal): "

I'm sure it's useful to someone.
